Conniek's Tricks to a Reel!

Conniek's Tricks to a Reel!

That sounds strange for sure. Usually it seems a reel tricks us by not casting as far as we would like, the reel just gets contrary by making a zinging whizzing sound when casting.
Is it necessary to trick out your reel by up grading your bearings Nope, not at all? Just as it isn't necessary to trick out your car or truck with pipes, fuel additive etc. Doing some of the trick things give you slight edge in performance and sometimes that is very important.
So, how do we do a reel trick? Well, first of all, the present bearings in left side plate and under cast control cap have to go.

Replacing the mfg. bearings with the new to the market Ceramic bearings will do the trick on the bearing replacement. These new bearings will meet all your needs because they run smoother, are lighter weight, better spool control, more corrosion resistant, can withstand more temperature with increased loads. Being ceramic, they will outlast the life of the bearing raceway. A huge problem with the small standard precision bearings and rating is that the bearings have no markings for identification. The ceramic bearings have "CB" stamped on the outside so there is no problem identifying them as they are kind of pricy so the outside marking is most helpful. These ceramic bearings come clean and dry. Apply one drop of TG's Rocket Fuel per bearing.
Tony Gittins, in England, a casting champion, developed the famous Rocket Fuel Oil and now the Ceramic bearings.

Casting anglers wanted more distance and improved performance so Tony did his magic with the Rocket Fuel and now the bearings. Mr. Ron Colby stopped by our shop on his way to a BASS Federation Tournament and we tricked out his reel with the Ceramic bearings. He could immediately tell the difference in casting distance. Dave Majestic from Kelseyville, California felt the difference also and the smoothness in casting.. Lee Hines says the difference is just unbelievable and he can cast a country mile. Rick Loomis, a Lake Fork guide swears by them for their indurance. Sewin'Sam says the improvement is noticeable immediately in the feel when casting. Anglers scattered geographically and fish various applications and conditions have similar experiences with the new bearings.
Treat the ceramic bearings the same as other bearings. Never apply grease to them. Clean them with lighter fluid in a bottle cap and let dry, then apply one drop of oil. Too much oil will make the ceramic balls be sluggish and not move as freely as they should in the raceway. Never apply grease to bearings.

If your local shop tricks out your reel or you do it your self, Be sure to clean and service the removed bearings and keep for spares. They are good bearings also and with proper care and maintenance, will be handy if you ever need them.
Tricking out your reel is fun and definitely nor a bad reflection on the reel mfg'rs bearings. The stock bearings are fine .

Another thing anglers like to do is to install the Smoooothie drag washers. These washers were developed for salt water fishing as they withstand lots of heat. Installing them in freshwater reels has become almost a common thing lately. There is definitely no slippage on drag with the Smoooothies. Let me remind you tho, if you change out anything from original design of reels, your warranty may not be good.

Hope you enjoy trickin' out your reels, have fun and catch lots of fish.
