Another beautiful fall day on Guntersville. We had a good wind out there today, but I managed to catch a couple fish and miss a couple. I usually get up and hit the lake at sunset, but have been reading other post about better fishing later in the day. So I took an early lunch and hit the lake at roughly 11 am - 1 pm. The bait fish were active during this time. The shad were very small, but in numbers. This is the most active I've seen the lake in the last month. It was tough on me trying to catch fish when bass were blowing up on shad all around me. I caught the fish on an albino fluke with the lightest bullet weight I could find to help me in the wind (I lost my double barrel swivels or I would have tried the donkey rig..next time). I wish I had smaller tackle to try to catch these fish. I threw a small rat l trap, mini buzz bait and worked a jig, but couldn't get a strike. My biggest fish was 3 lbs. I wish I had more time, but had to run. Anybody have suggestions on what I should try to use in this situation again? I'm considering breaking out my fly gear! Thanks, Yak Attack (How do you post pictures on here? I took one today.)

Just keep on trying.... From: TheJigMeister, Alabama
The lower end of the lake can be tough. I do better around Alred, Brown's creek and Seibold but have caught a good number of fish between Honeycomb and the dam. Best advice I can give is to hit the points on the outer edges of all those covers. Dingers, smaller crankbaits usually do well this time of year. I would think that fluke would do well too. In honeycomb - the docks can be good as well. On the bluff side, I'm told one can catch a smallie or two but I haven't managed that yet. :( Good Luck! I'm actually hitting Wheeler tomorrow for the first time this year.
