Shane Watson Guide Service Friday Report. The stripers continue to be on top most days and this morning was no exception. We got on a school this morning at daylight that stayed up for a good while. There were no other boats on them and the fish were relaxed and were staying around. They were up in good numbers, but they were choosey about what they wanted, as we threw big and small stuff at them. Freelined bluebacks and u-rigs produced best this morning. When the fish went down, we had a good freeline bite out over a 100 to 140 foot bottom from 9:30 am till we left at 11:30. These fish were scattered out over open water down 20 feet deep and would eat the freeline well. On these busting stripers, you've got two choices, go big or go small. Honestly, both have worked about the same. Some schools will bite a freelined blueback, a Sebile, a Spook, or a bone Redfin well. Some schools that you will encounter will be harder to catch will only eat a smaller bait. Medium freelined shiners, a small spoon, a small fluke on a fishhead spin or on a leadhead will work best in this situation.
