Subject: Pickwick, Tennessee

Submitted by TC Nettles (ip 97.81.130.53)

Date Fished: 4/15/2012
Water Temperature: 71
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

I went fishing this weekend with Rick Barnes and Mickey Lawson to the lower end of Pickwick Lake. We stayed at the state park and it was good. We got to fish two hours Thurs evening and caught 12 bass upto 3 lbs on smokin blue finesse worms (SBFW) and smoke/sparkle grubs off the loading dock around the corner from the launch. Good grocries for supper. Friday we went to Dry Creek and started in the shallow end but a boat cut us off (AH) forcing us to go to the boathouses. It paid off, the grub and SBFW caught lots of bass (half LM and half SM) some upto 2lb. The wind forced us to cross he river to the cuts below the Tenn/Tom waterway and the bass were staging to go into the cuts to spawn. There was some good smallmouth on the points. We caught lots of fish in these areas. Ended the day with 80 bass, few bluegill and a catfish. Saturday we had to hide from a 15 mph wind (SE). The first point at Shilo Falls cut gave up a 4+ SM on the SBFW. We caught several fish there on the worm and one 2+SM on a crankbait. We fished out the points of this cut and got 17 bass. Tried to fish several more cuts up to the Tenn/Tom but the boat traffic was too intense. We went up above the Tenn/Tom and found a cut that did not have any boats and and caught several more nice fish there, mostly on the points (one SM over 3lbs). Crossed the lake to Panther Ck and went way back to the shallows. Tried buzzbaits and pop-rs in two to one feet. Had four or five hits and caught two small bass. We went down to Dry Ck and fished the bluff bank out of the wind and caught several small fish on SBFW. Back across the river to fish a calm area and got another 4+SM off a point of a cut. Fished around the point to some boathouses on a flat, each one gave up several samll bass. Ended the day with 60 bass. Bad wind and suck boats everywhere. Sunday we cleared the cabin and launched in heavy wind. We fished the boathouses from yesterday PM and caught several small bass on SBFW on each house. We went across the lake to Bluff Creek and fished the boathouses with SBFW and we started catching 2-5lb bass off the deep docks (11-25ft). These fish were getting ready to spawn. The wind was bad... Fished all the way back to to shallow water. Not many fish shallow. We went down to Anderson Branch and found a small cut out of the wind. Got a 4+Lm off a tree and a 5+LM off a trolley and a 3+SM off the point (SBFW). Did I say bad wind... Left the lake 12 noon with 40 bass and a 6+ flathead catfish. Good day, bad wind... Two and half days 192 bass. TC .
