Subject: Allatoona, Georgia

Submitted by Eric Dell (ip 67.33.64.37)

Date Fished: 3/27/2004
Water Temperature: 58
Water Clarity: 2-3 feet

On Saturday, March 27th, our Sunday school class had a men's fishing outing on Allatoona. We had 13 men show up bright and early and 12 of those were spread out in 4 boats. One stayed on the bank. We put in at Galts Ferry.

Unfortunately, for a few of the boats the fishing was alittle tough. However, the three of us in my boat had an awesome time. In my boat we decided to follow a hot tip and fish for hybrids/stripers with bucktail jigs first thing then go for spots later. However, at our first stop, my bass fishing urges overpowered me, and I convinced my partners for us to try some shallow cranking for bass.

The first pocket we tried produced a couple of small spots, but by the time we got to the back of the pocket we quickly discovered it was loaded with white bass and small hybrids. We must have boated at least 24 white bass (with a few small hybrids mixed in) in 20 or 30 minutes. All of them hit the suspending shad rap on 8 lb line on medium spinning tackle. It was a lot of fun.

After the white bass flurry we went searching for larger stripers/hybrids with no luck. After an hour or so of striper/hybrid searching we switched back to spotted bass. We managed to catch about 15 spots with 7 or 8 being keepers and 1 largemouth. All of the short fish came on the suspending shad rap and all of the keeper fish came on green pumpkin finesse worms or green pumpkin baby brushhogs. The bass were on flat gravel points in about 6 to 8 feet of water. I spotted a few larger fish cruising in the back of pockets but didn't waste my time on them. We put the boat back on the trailer at noon.

Of course I don't want to take anyone away from their church home but if you live near Woodstock and don't have a church home please prayerfully consider attending First Baptist Church Woodstock. I'd love to have you as my quest in my Sunday school class. By the way check out empty-on-easter.com.
