SUBJECT: # 4322: It all started at the ramp....

It was a fine day for fishing. I little cool, a little windy. My partner and I launch and I hear a weird banging noise. Ran about a mile, stopped and checked things out and all seems well. We thought it was just the wind slapping the boat. We stop at the first spot and my partner puts a 4lber on me early from the back of the boat. We fished the area for a while with nothing else. We move about a half mile. Not much banging... nothing biting. Wind picks up again and we move to some docks. Banging is loud again. Sounds equally loud on both sides of the boat. Must be the wind. Yeah, must be.
We work down a long stretch of docks and pick up a fish or two but no keepers for me. We start working a stretch of protected bank and my partner breaks off a big fish. Then he catches a big fish... and another, and another and yet another. I have zero keepers. He has 25-2 lbs!! It's dark and we head in. As we're loading the boat, he says "I know what that noise was. You aren't going to be happy." It was the safety strap on the bow. Apparently, I unhooked it from the trailer instead of the boat. He didn't catch it either... I get my butt handed to me on a platter, a $500 copay and two weeks later the boat is home and ready to go. Good as new!
So, we go out. I put 20-2 lbs in the boat and he gets about 13. Best five between us - 24-15! The safety strap is in the back of the SUV.
So, two trips we bag 50lbs of bass and it cost me $500. I'm sure glad we caught fish!
I always say... "Stupid should be painful!". Guess what? Sometimes, it is.
