SUBJECT: # 4332: crappie vs. whales

Submitted by spooky (75.50.233.171) from TEXAS on 6/14/2008 4:47:00 PM

so yesterday i decided to start my first day of vacation by heading up to our closest body of water named elephant butte in southern new mexico. it's 120 miles from my door to the shore where i decided to fish off the bank since i decided to leave the boat home this time. the action was fairly good and i had already hooked several crappie and a 19 inch walleye and was just enjoying a quiet friday morning. things were about to change... on the road leading to the lakeshore an older 70's model, multi-colored chevy truck approached and parked 10 yards behind my car. did i mention elephant butte is about 20 miles long with plenty of beaches for swimmers and campers? in the truck were three LARGE women and a small baby girl. they were locals. probably drove 5 miles to get there. the women were not cute. the smallest of the three asked me if i could MOVE my fishing pole out of the way so they could swim. i told them they shouldn't swim there because there was old line and hooks in the water and that maybe they should go to the state park, pay $5, and swim off the sandy beach. what if the baby got hooked? i asked. she glared at me. i moved my pole. they didn't have $5. they wanted to swim for free. did i mention they were not cute? did i mention the lake is over 20 miles long? so they commenced to going swimming not 20 feet from where i was fishing. their bathing suits did not fit. the baby was crying. they were splashing and just having a grand time and it was apparent that two of them were very into each other if you know what i mean. what a shame they weren't cute... the fishing turned off. i had had enough. as i was packing up my equipment i overheard them say what a @#*! i was for telling them where they could/couldn't swim. whales-3 crappie-0 next time i'm taking the boat.

Very few people know the meaning of "Common Courtesy" anymore, they care about nobody but themselves. Often while trout fishing from the bank on the "Hootch" I have had wannabe flyfishers with their Orvis waders and "fairy wand", talking on their cellphones see me catching fish, and walk right into my hole and stand there to fish. My trout rig uses an 1/8th oz. bullet weight, perfect for target practice.

I know the feeling. Last week my best friend and I was bank fishing for catfish. We were on a reservoir so there was plenty of water. This boat kept trolling along the bank and getting closer with each pass. His last pass, he decided to drop anchor about 25 feet right in front of us. After he threw out his second pole, I apologized to him. He asked me why and I told him "For this". I cast my pole and landed right in his boat. I told him I was going to keep casting and 1 of the casts would probably get him. He pulled up his anchor and gunned it as he left. He was saying something but I couldnt understand him.

My dad and I were fishing down a bank (in a boat) on a 4000 acre lake and we had the pleasure of some dillweeds water skiing back and forth, back and forth about 100 feet away from us. We stopped fishing and stared at them as they went by as if to say "What the F%#@, azzwipe? I told my Dad we should cast our rattle traps straight at them, but that would be wrong to loose any lures to them, they would be the type to sue us. Like my Dad says "You can't fix stupid".

When my dad and my daughter and I were fishing, an idiot kept buzzing us while pulling a skier. Keep in mind, we're in a little creek...WAY off the main river. The 4th time he went by, I grabbed my emergency air horn (which for some reason seems WAY louder than most) and figured next time they went by, they'd get a blast of that...which should shock the skier enough to fall off! (and I wouldn't lose a lure)
