SUBJECT: # 4387: Ray Scott and a free membership

Submitted by Jim Hardy (70.188.234.204) from FLORIDA on 3/27/2012 11:31:00 AM

Last April, our small bass club had fished a tournament on Miller's Ferry near Camden, Alabama. We had finished the weigh-in and everyone had left except my cousin and I. As we were securing our gear getting ready to depart the premises, a large SUV with a man and woman in it drove up at the launch site. The gentleman got out asking us if we knew where Sylacauga was and how could he get there. We explained that he was a long way from Sylacauga and asked him how he got so far off track. He began to rail about how bad his lady companion was at following directions and that her incompetence in that area was the reason for their dilemma. The more the talked, the more familiar he looked and I told him he looked familiar and asked his name. It was at that moment that my cousin and I met Mr, Ray Scott, the founder of BASS (and he wasn't really lost). We had quite a visit with him during which he sold us a free membership in BASS for $20 (he's a really GOOD salesman). He did leave us a couple of autographed hats which we wore to our next club meeting so our fellow members would believe our story.

Congrats on the name dropping too.

There was time I was launching my canoe on the Guadaloupe River in central Texas one morning. Drunk a usual, the canoe took off and left me standing in the rapids. An old fart retrieves it and pulls it back up the river to me. He was camping just a few hundred feet up river from me and my ole lady. He said his name was George Bush and signed my tent for me.
