SUBJECT: # 4321: close to a boat ramp

Submitted by Mitchell (75.137.241.104) from ALABAMA on 4/13/2008 7:05:00 PM

Last Monday I was fishing Elk River. I worked Saturday to take off Monday because of the weather, and because I have had walking pneumonia since February. I pulled in a slough by a ramp to relieve myself, and dropped my 9MM pistol in five and a half feet of water. I was smart enough to quickly drop a marker bouy. The only rod I had that was long enough to reach the bottom was my $250 Kistler. I took the reel off and tied a Lucky Thirteen to the end of it and began dragging it across the bottom. My wife called and I thought if I couldn't hook it, I'd get her to leave work and buy a big magnet like I've seen at stores and bring it to me. After about ten minutes of dragging she called back, and as I pulled the phone up, I dropped it in the river also. I sat there about fifteen more minutes studying the 57 degree water temp. on the depth finder, and finally stripped down, butt naked and jumped in. It took about a minute to be able to breathe regularly, and then I began wading around trying to find both the pistol and phone. I found the phone in about ten minutes and pulled it up with my feet, (I didn't want to put my head underwater) and pitched in in the boat. About another five minutes and I found my pistol, and again trying to pick it up with my feet, expecting to probably shoot myself, dropped it, and it took another few minutes to find it again. This time I managed to get it in my hands. After getting back in the boat and drying and dressing, I moved out in the middle of the slough where the sun was shining. To my surprise the phone worked perfectly. (Verizon Gzone) I caught two dinks and called it a day by 1 o'clock. Needless to say, I'm still sick, but; "A bad day fishing is still better than a good day at work."

I know it wasn't funny to you... but it was to me. I would NOT have tried the rod or use my feet if I had one in chamber. Can you imagine the marine police trying to put that puzzle together?

    Priceless.
