How much does this smallmouth weigh
from Keith (

Yesterday I caught a Smallie that was almost 21 inches long and had a large girth because it was full of eggs, no scale and did not want to keep fish out of lake too long. Any guess on how much it should weigh? Biggest smallmouth I have ever caught! What a thrill! Keith

Keith buy a digital scale and keep it in the boat with you. I am a smallmouth nut and fish only for the brown fish. Three weeks ago I caught a 21" smallie that weighed 4 3/4 lbs since it was long and slender (but fought really hard), earlier I caught one 20" and it was over 5 pounds. So if yours was really "football shaped" you probably caught one in the six pound range as per your description, in any light is one heck of a smallmouth. Nice going. Come back and let us know what water temp and what bait and how deep. Again a nice fish. The Brown Fish Man

Caught smallmouth on Lake Belton from Keith (  1/9/1999 10:57:00 PM
About 1 hr. before big cold front, my buddie had several in the 18 inch range on crankbaits, mine was on a red rattletrap. Liked to jerked my arm from its socket but never jumped, it was a beautiful fish light in color with those nice dark spots.
Good catch Keith!!! from Paul Sonnier (  1/9/1999 11:24:00 PM
Keith, I mainly fish Stillhouse with the occasional trip to Belton. I have caught many good smallies on Stillhouse, and from the description, I would have to say a around the 5 to 5 1/2 range. Very nice fish!! I was at work feeling the temperature drop as the front was coming in and sure was wishing I was out on the lake. I was oin Stillhouse today, but no luck with the clear, cold blue bird skies!! Congrats!! Paul Sonnier
