I was reading post #20710 and others. I've been lucky with my outboards i guess (merc's) only had to do routine maint. I don't understand this powerhead business. Is it just a "head" like a car engine has. Can someone explain this ? I don't understand all the powerhead failures?

Powerhead is Motor from Rick (12.77.250.89)  4/19/1999 10:25:00 AM
Your outboard "motor" contains a motor (V-6, inline 4, whatever), and what would be the drive shaft and transmission on your car. Powerhead refers only to the "V-6 or Inline 4" portion of your "motor" where power is generated. A blown powerhead is the same as blown engine in your car. Transmission and drive shaft are still fine.
