i am re installing the motor someone else removed. everything else seems to fit in place except this pair. one black and one gray they come out or the harness seperate from all the others, above the slave solenoid but below the intake, right behind the number 8 cylnder. what piece of electronics would be there? its a 1980 glastron w/ points and chevy v8.

The grey wire goes to the negative side of the coil - it's the sender lead for the tach. The black would be a ground for something, possibly to the distributor? Can't tell for sure without looking at it. Get a good service manual with a wiring diagram.
no, its something else from gto john (209.83.252.104)  6/14/1999 2:45:00 PM
i've got the coil hooked up(2 grays on the neg, distributor on the pos). these 2 are closer to the starter and won't reach the coil. could it be a trim sensor? i have the mercruiser manual, but its vague and just general. i got the battery charged so i'll take a voltmeter to it tonight.

Another possibility is the shift assist microswitch (on the shift cable bracket).

I'm working on a 3.0 motor 2002 mercruiser with electronic ignition. do you short the 2 white wires to time the motor? It says 2 degree after top dead center. thanks phil
