I am getting a 14 ft Lowe Big Jon aluminum boat and was wondering what is the best way to put a livewell on it that will keep fish alive in case I enter a tournament. Also, will a 20hp motor get this boat up on plane. Thanks and good fishing?

Livewells = weight = bigger motor = more money from Nelly (209.63.94.7)  7/7/1999 12:14:00 PM
If the Lowe has a center seat you could cut the top off, remove the floatation, add a cooler or tub inside and build a new seat top out of wood. Keep in mind you are losing floatation and adding weight at the rate of 8lbs per gallon. That 48qt cooler full of H20 weighs 72lbs! Thats a significant load for a 14' with a 20hp. a 35hp would be more like it assuming you dont exceed the BIA rating. Off the cuff it sounds like you need a 16 or 18 footer. Good Luck!

Ben, Some of my buddies have used their coolers with the add on aerator feature (can be purchased at Wally World or through Bass Pro-page 335 of the master catalog). These seem to work adequately as livewells and are portable, so you can take them when you need them or leave them behind when not necessary. Good Luck and Good Fishing! Team Jesus

I have a 14' Lowe that came with a livewell as an option in the center seat. I can plane this boat with 2 people, full livewell and full bait cooler with a 25HP Nissan. It used to plane fine with my old 25 Johnson too though I had to go to a lower pitch prop.
