12/24 volt wiring diagram for trolling motor

Anyone know where I can find a 12/24 wiring diagram for trolling motor hookup? I have the standard 3 prong twistlock plug, an on/off/on 25 amp toggle switch to select 12 or 24 volt. The trolling motor also has a 12/24 switch on it. My main objective is to be able to charge my batteries by using the twistlock outlet. Is this a normal situation?

Dc -- Check the Bass Pro shops catalog. I believe they have a Marinco plug in there that allows you to do what you want, but if I were you I would buy a good on board charger. GL&GF

Go to http://members.aol.com/cbutler978/battery.html have a couple of diagrams on this page showing 12V,12/24V, and 24V wiring schemes. Your boat is probably wired like one of them. Charging both batteries through the charge/run plug is acceptable assuming you have heavy enough wiring (6 awg) and a strong 12V charger (15 or 20 amps preferable).

DC, if you dont have an onboard charger and I dont, I would strongly recommend you hook your portable charger(s) directly to the battery for charging. Remember you will not get the best charge by running through another 20ft or so of wiring to get to the batteries. just my opinion.

Thanks Ray. Good info on your webpage. I do indeed have 6 gauge wire to the batteries. And to Marion, I tried to order an on board charger, and it didn't surprise me too much that BPS was OUT OF STOCK and item was backordered.
