I recently helped a friend change his TM cable. He has a 95 model. I had an old 90 model...dead. We took the cable from mine and planted on his. Now, she's hard as heck to steer. Almost takes a strain to steer it. Any suggestions? Reasons why it would be so tight to steer?

We have a tourney this weekend. Looks like my 115Faststrike won't be fixed and my buddy's TM won't steer! We're pot out of luck.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, DanL

Dan was the foot cable easy to move before you put cable in friends motor. Disconnect top from pinion gear. Move foot pedal. IF easy then problem is in motor bearings or bent outer tube rubbing on inner tube. If pedal is hard to move then check pivot pin in foot pedal. Hope this helps. Ben
Aftermarket Cable.....? Are they available. $50+ is steep at OMC dealer. from DanL (206.251.162.24)  7/6/2000 2:38:00 PM
BOOM! It all seems like a moot point now, but when checking out the cable, it alone was difficult to move. It had a bent shaft (threaded end inside motor head) and my buddy tried to bend it straight and it broke!

ANY ideas on where to get these cables aftermarket?

I have the same motor as Dan but have the opposite problem. My motor is too easy to steer. If foot pressure is not constantly maintained the motor will rotate clockwise until it hits the limit of travel. Is there any way to tighten it a little bit.

First there is no aftermarket. But I am sure that teleflex or some other cable company is making it for them. Topwater, the only way to put more pressure on foot control is tighten the lower bearing. Don't believe to be your problem though. If you notice the lower units are not exactly straight with tube. They are a few degrees off. If your unit is not slightly off, you will get this reaction from foot pedal. Ben
