How do Suzuki outboards (particularly the 150) compare as far as reliability, performance, price, etc, to the 2 big dogs..Yamaha & Merc?

One thing to really think strong about. Where do you get it serviced if you are away from your dealer. Let me be clear. I am not bashing Suzuki. They are fast and run good. However, I fish across many states. There will be a time when you have a problem. You can always find a Merc or OMC shop. And usually Yamaha. You very seldom see Suzuki. Not having access to Parts and Service can ruin a fishing trip.

I have a Suzuki 9.9 oil injected and it has been very dependable and smooth running but it is hard to get parts for.The closest place to me is over 100 miles. If you can get it serviced and parts than I recommend them

 Great engine!

Had a '96 Bass 150 for four years, never put a wrench on it!

By the way, when are you gonna make a decision and finally buy something?

Fish on!

I have a 94 150 suzuki not a single problem with it yet.I fish every weekend and run at wot all the time and never had a single thing go wrong I love it and you can not beat 6yr of warenty.I priced a new one and the dealer said he would sell me a new one for 8900 I think give or take a 100.I only thaught about a new one because of the warenty mine just expired after the 6yrs.

My '95 150EFI is strong running, quick starting and absolutely the most dependable motor I've ever had. I have gone through three lower units in the past 6 years, but I can't blame the motor for me not being able to stay out of the rocks. Even with that abuse, it has been great. Out of fairness though, it is probably the heaviest 150 out there and finding a authorized repair shop sometimes is hard. On the other hand, if it never breaks, who needs the shop. If the price is right, go for it. I haven't been the least bit sorry.

I had a 1994 200 efi suzy. I live in Southwest Florida, something like more boats registered here than anywhere else in FL., and I could not find anybody that wanted to work on it, nor could i find any second hand or rebuilt parts (ie lower unit, had to buy new for $3600.00). Go with a big name like Merc Yam even the Bomb would be better. Bill

I live in Texas, and found plenty of mechanics who were competent and willing to work on my Suzuki Bass 150.

Fortunately, all they ever had to repair/replace were my water pump, filters, and spark plugs.

Take that thought to the bank!
