    De-carb the Optimax?

Anyone got a definitive answer if an Optimax requires decarbonizing? I see a lot of posts about the subject but not much about the Opti. Has anyone talked to Merc? Mine is approaching 100 hrs. I have run Chevron with techron since it was new but am looking for any info on maintenance. Thanks

Decarb worries... from bonefish  1/6/2002 8:15:00 AM
Oils are TCW3, Techron is Ring Free. Why put more additives in your motor? Pull a spark plug and look to see how clean your Opti is after only 100hrs.

Bluebird, I would definitely pull the plugs if you are worried. A friend of mine has a 225 opti and even using the platinuium plugs he gets carbon build up. I am not an expert but in my opinion I would think running decarb occasionally, every 100 hours would not hurt the engine. At least not as bad as carbon can. Make a phone call and call a technician to be sure.

What's the best decarb product? where do you buy the stuff? how often should you use it? does it tell you on the bottle how much to add for size of fuel tanks?

thanks in advance for help

Deep Creep is the best decarbonizer I have found. from Humminbird  1/6/2002 8:04:00 PM
Want proof?? Remove spark plug from your lawn mover and look at piston and cylinder wall with flask light. Observe carbon deposits. Spray large quanity of Deep Creep in SP hole. Replace SP. Let stand for 15-30 minutes while you drink a beer. Start lawn mover and let her idle while spraying Deep Creep in carburator. Let her run until smoking stops. Remove plug and check piston/wall again. Look at residue on spark plug. Clean SP with Deep Creep and repeat. Look at how clean iside of engine is. It is amazing stuff. You can do same with your weed eater. Now go do you marine engine.
