1995 Johnson 150 Fast Strike PROBLEM
from Mike (

Tonight I had to limp back to the ramp at 1100 rpms. It would do no more or it would stall. When I left the ramp the boat ran fine at 4100 RPM but seemed to have an ocassional hesitaation that I didn't think much of since it has been sitting for two weeks. After no-wake zoning up a creek for a mile and then returning to the main lake another mile, I went to opening her up and NOTHING more than 1100 - 900 rpms or she would die. I have a water/fuel seperation filter and that was clean. Is there another in-line fuel filter in the motor? (It may not even be a fuel problem) No oil injector or any other alarms went off)

Any help would be greatly appreciated since I was planing on taking her on vacation next week and I know the Boat shop won't be able to look at it in time.

You might try replacing your fuel primer bulb. My engine did the same thing once and the check valves had come loose in the bulb.

Another possibility is that one of the float valves in a carb came off. This would flood other carbs causing the engine to stall. Did you leave a trail of fuel behind the boat?

Shop says two weeks from Mike (  6/25/2005 12:10:00 PM
I would like to figure this out sooner if possible. I hooked up the hose and the motor started right up. It would rev to 4000 and when in gear would also rev up there, but it seemed to be breaking up a bit. Could that be because it was not under load or ?. If the power pack was bad, would I be able to start it up and run it? If so, is there any way to trouble shoot the power pack? Thanks

yes it will run with a bad power pack. from jeff m (  6/25/2005 7:35:00 PM
