Bass & Walleye Boats Magazine ????

I have not had a subscription to this magazine in at least 5 years, maybe longer. I have had no correspondence of any type with them during this time, except to rag on them some in this forum. I have sent in no product info cards, nothing.

This past weekend, out of the blue, I get a copy of the newest issue in the mail. There was no card to send back, no mention of this being a free issue or that I need to send something back or I am subscribed, etc.

Anyone else?? What are they up to????

guess what from Tomt (138.162.0.37)  11/28/2005 12:22:00 PM
Maybe they are trying to build their readership.. After all with all the complaining everyone does about the mag - it is the only one that supports our sport vehicles. I say if you want to continue the sport and read good info help them to help us. It seems that whenever we get somthing that we need we criticize it into extinction then complain we get no good reading material or support. If you don't like it fine but don't trash it.....

TOMT ..I couldn't have said it any better.... from Toonafish  11/28/2005 1:19:00 PM
Other than some erroneous speed info...I think it's a great mag....

Maybe someone else..... from 21 xdc (69.245.114.237)  11/28/2005 1:25:00 PM
Sent you a subscription... They have offers during the holidays for this... I have sent subscriptions for Christmas for a few and only one I told I did it.

Maybe you have a secret admirer...

Me too from Rich (63.65.68.246)  11/28/2005 1:37:00 PM
I have never subscribed to it, and out of the blue it showed up in my mailbox late last week. Magazine subscriptions are a fairly frequent Christmas gift in my family, but they always call and let us know it is coming, so that we can confirm receipt. So far, none of my relatives have called to let me know about this.

   Me too. from Jim C. (67.132.198.254)  11/28/2005 1:44:00 PM
Something's up. Got my first issue last month and never ever subscribed (or even bought a newstand copy) before. I'm guessing they got a hold of some fishing marketing list and are hitting up potential customers with a trial subscription hoping you'll like it enough to renew. They could even be boosting circulation numbers so as to attract more advertisers (where the REAL money is for magazines).

Bass & Walleye of new vs© older from BassCat Total Performance Bass Boats  11/28/2005 1:59:00 PM
Bass & Walleye has had various editors and differences over the past years© We feel that the present leadership has often been tied incorrectly to the historical issues of the past, as a bulk entity©

Also the Distribution is not directly associated to the the Editorial staff of Ehlert Publishing© These are separate arms in the company© Distribution probably got your address from a purchase you made over the past few seasons on some produst that got registered and entered in to a data base© So pdds are they mailed you a magazine in a target segment as a potential consumer©

That being said, we at Bass Cat distanced our association from previous editorial opportunities under other leadership© That has been documented on this board going back almost 3/4 of a decade ago© That was a heated topic here a long time ago©

Though we have always supported the present staff as it is structured and done everything we can to cooperate as best we could©

This staff has an more impartial view on boats and engines© They report mainstream rigs as they see them and as they experience them© Not focusing only on the outlandish set up and pet companies© Their present project boat is a Stratos we believe, though you really don't see that preferenced greatly©

We first openly cooperated with Steve on a project for B & W going back to a June 200 publication when Steve Quinlan was the Editor previously© His direction has been fair and true©

This is Steve's ¥Quinlan¤ second term at the helm as Editor of Bass & Walleye and we think he has earned a little more cushion for what he is trying to bring to the front©

He is trying and they are listening to yoru opinions©

Thanks Guys!

BCB

Well, in my opinion..... from Alan (144.167.49.96)  11/28/2005 2:41:00 PM
it did seem better than I remember it from years ago, but I haven't read all of it yet. I'm more than willing to cut them some slack if they'll stay away from secert special light lay-up hulls from a pet company for their tests. Of course they had your help, Rick, on the main article, so that turned out pretty good.

BTW, Why were the weights so different on the 3 identical hulls if the engine weight wasn't included, they didn't make that clear?? Surely your 3 hulls didn't have that much difference just in themselves?

Great source of info......... from Todd Morgan, C&O Marine   11/28/2005 5:24:00 PM
...if for no other reason than the fuel metering during tests.

They may cater a bit to advertisers...but it's not like there's a great source of boat lines to choose from. The boat biz is really a small family of people and you run across the same people year after year, even if they're with another company.

I never agreed with boat tests using extreme setups....especially those that would void the normal user's warranty.

I think they do a very good job.....and are a good source of info for dealers and end user's alike.

Todd Morgan

   and from rick (216.134.225.125)  11/28/2005 6:17:00 PM
 Alan,

After the test we did track some of the weight to the trailers themselves and a little of it to the boats and the balance was the scales, Which had that much variance as we were using truck scales and apparently the window of error on them was larger than we anticipated. Our internal scales which we have used in the past for everyting from BASS articles to B & W were down at the time and we resorted to large truck bed scales.

The hulls were fairly close though the Merc was slightly lighter and thus the handicap fo weight added.

Hey Toonafish.... from Big Ed Mustapha (69.216.236.111)  11/28/2005 6:45:00 PM
...their speeds are right on the money. You CAN get a Ranger to break 60 mph.....you graft a Ranger deck cap onto an Allison hull.

Free mag from Spook (24.119.235.37)  11/28/2005 7:02:00 PM
I got my first issue and a years subscribtion several years years ago as a thank you from Minn-Kota for having a Minn-Kota on my new Ranger. Maybe this is something like that.

Decent Mag from thebassoutlaw  11/28/2005 7:17:00 PM
What else is there? I just use it for general info but last issue or two seem a little more "believeable". By the way, those BassCat's run pretty good it the 200 shootout, wish I could afford one!

I've been getting it... from PumaJeff (152.163.100.65)  11/28/2005 10:01:00 PM
every magazine issue, for the last 2 years or so. I have no idea how. ??? :o) :o) :o)

   Easy from Bassnman2 (71.11.139.50)  11/28/2005 11:53:00 PM
This issue has all the current model boats and you are on a list of fishermen that might be interesed in new boats. It is their new boat issue.

hmmmm from Danco  11/29/2005 8:39:00 AM
Having said that Rick maybe I should reconsider and renew. It has been pretty boring sitting on the crapper lately. LOL

It used to be a better mag. from Troy (24.159.178.241)  11/29/2005 1:01:00 PM
The first five years of the magazine seemed to have more material on bass boats, hands on tech info, and more advertising from the small suppliers. I thought it was the best during that time period.

When I pick it up now it seems as if it is tailored to the advertisers instead of the reader. Just my opinion!

interesting comments from BCB from RobShaw  11/29/2005 4:05:00 PM
I remember well the distancing of BassCat from these folks. I too distanced myself from B&WB because of an exchange I had with John Tiger. Is he still there? I may reconsider renewing if he's not there.
