Hey all I am looking at possibly getting a fish and ski this summer, and I have narrowed it down to nitro and Stratos. I am looking at 19 footers mostly. I was hoping I could find out some pro's and cons about each one.

Thanks!

Are you looking new or used? from Basslikethat (157.127.124.14)  2/2/2006 12:51:00 PM
If your looking new, don't leave out Champion or Ranger. They tend to hold their value better than any I've seen. If you looking used, don't leave out Viper. Nicely built, and will be about the fastest of the fish & ski bunch (Behind that thing Allison builds). A used Champion would be my other choice!!!!!!

I would suggest looking into the Triton 190 Fish and Ski. Has an incredible amount of front deck space among other superior features!. John

I have a 98 Stratos with a 150 Evinrude. I have had absolutely no problems with this boat. It just keeps on running. My only suggestion to you is to think differently if you plan on sking alot more than fishing. While the F&S does work for both, the flat botton design of a bass boat doesn't make for a great ski boat experience. I fish more than ski, so this one works well for me.

IMO As far as FISH & Ski's (with FISHING being the main concern) I would say the best ones on the market (Layout) are: the Venom/Viper Coral 202, Stratos 200FS, Triton 190FS. The Stratos 191FS is a hot little boat with a 175 but the front deck is cramped.

If your going for a SKI & Fish that Stratos 290 and Triton 21SF are the ticket. I think (have seen) the 290 is a little better performer though (with same hp)

Someone else mentioned it already, are you looking for new or used? A guy near me had a good looking Stratos for sale in the parking lot of the Enon fire station w/a 200 v-max, I breifly spoke to him at the ramp a few weeks ago, and he was looking to make someone a good deal on it - I have no further info on that one other than the fact that it started no problem before I left to fish. I've got an 04 Nitro 188, w/115 Merc. Definatly not going to blow anyone away with it, 47 GPS w/light load on a good day. It handles well, and I like the layout overall. I highly recommend the deck extention, and as everyone says, pay the extra bucks now and max it out with the 175. A buddy has an 04 Champ 210 w/225 Yammy HDPI & 10" plate that I fish out of pretty regular. Standard 2 man load, he can consistantly get it over 60, but swears with the right set-up he should get near 70. We are still playing with it. To me, it is not a very "family functional" layout, but for a F&S has got a huge front deck w/lots of storage - definatly focuses more on fishing IMO. He's got pics of it on his site fishingvadotcom. Good luck, I can't honestly comment on the other brands out there. All of them look nice on the showroom floor.

or the new Triton 211SF. Get the most boat you can afford. I love my 1999 SF21 w/ 225 opti. low sixties performer, loaded or empty.

If you're looking to spend a bunch of dough on an 18 footer, you'll find you can get a LOT more boat by looking at a couple year old 21 footer. My bro-in-law has a Nitro 18 footer, and he spent a lot of money for a slower, smaller boat than my SF21.

   Ranger 1850 from Pete_nc (69.164.16.17)  2/3/2006 8:24:00 PM
I am also looking for a fish and ski. I have a 1999 Stratos Vindicator 283 now so fishing is more a higher priority than the ski.

Personally, I am impressed with the Ranger 1850. Good storage, great seating for 6 and well designed. I saw it last night at the Charlotte boat show.

I also looked at the Stratos 486. It did not have very good rod storage and a small fishing deck.

I hope to see the Triton 190 this weekend.

Good luck.
