Optimax water pressure, is this normal?

2003 Optimax 225 water pressure seems low. This is my first Optimax (just purchased boat) and when you first crank and let idle, water pressure does not register. It also seems to take a couple of seconds for some water to come out peehole. When you rev up and let go back down it will hold about 2 lbs. Just had new impeller put in by who I believe to be a very good mechanic. Had serviced before I even put in water. Motor runs good and like I said this may be normal, just curious.

Thanks for your help.

David

Sounds right. from billspence (204.108.8.5)  3/23/2006 6:49:00 PM
I noticed the same with mine. I ran it by the Merc guy at an Everstart and he said it is normal. Low water pressure isn't a problem as long as the temps are right.

Of course, ask a mechanic. Don't take some guys word for something this important.

I have a new optimax with smart craft, it shows 1.9 lbs of water pressure at idle, the dash gauge doesn't even lift off the peg, just like my last motor, not a problem.

You only need 10 lbs. WOT

I feel better about it now. I was a little worried.
