    225 Evinrude Ficht RAM

I have a 2002 225 Evinrude Ficht RAM. A small amount of oil is leaking out of the cowling after I use it each time when I have it tilted. I've cleaned out the inside and looked for a cracked line to no avail. I took off the plastic cover over the carburetors/air intake and it had a lot of oil in it. There was also a little bit of oil on the lip of each of the 6 openings. I'm using all XD-50 as recommended. The oil is black so I'm wondering if I'm getting too much oil.

Any ideas?

 Hi Ed,

I had the same engine but a 2001 and it did the same thing from day one when I bought it new. I was told that this was normal, so I just kept wiping it up every so often. I would still contact your dealer and ask them though and see what they say. Maybe by now they have a fix for them. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Larry

Thanks for the input. I hope some of the other guys say the same thing.

Mine too... but found an easy solution from TNBassKisser (68.52.244.103)  5/30/2007 5:23:00 PM
I have an 04 225 and it does it also. I used to store the motor up on its trailering bracket all the time and I was constantly wiping up the oil dripping from the cowling. I recently started trimming it down after I get it home and the oil leaking out the throttle bodies seems to have stopped.

Oil Still in the Cowling... from Ed (152.163.100.131)  5/30/2007 6:42:00 PM
At least I know it's not just my motor. Storing the motor down makes sense but it doesn't solve the problem of the oil being all over the bottom of the cowling. Seems to me like it's getting more oil than it needs...

Thanks for the input.
