Ranger 360V...What's it worth.. completely redone!
from dsandersonj (

I have a lead on a 88' Ranger 360V that has been completely refurbished and looks great. The carpet, seats, new trolling motor, batteries, fule lines/hoes, dash....evrything looks new. NADA really doesn't do boats like this justice IMO. So I am stuck as to waht it's worth. It has an 97' Intruder 150 with a fresh powerhead in 05'. Computer says 85 hrs on it now (from the tech that loked it over). It runs great. Any opinions ont his from you guys?

its worth from SnakeHead (  10/20/2007 8:19:00 AM
what ever your willing to pay for it. its an 80's boat probably worth around 7-8 grand. the newer motor could add some additional value. whats the electronics package? and how old is the trolling motor? those are the 2 areas that would require a big expense if they are old junk that needs replacing.

I never had one but those hulls are some of the best ever built...Prefect design in Book

$5,500 to $7,500 is probably a reasonable range from Whiteboat  10/20/2007 9:20:00 AM
and this assumes good condition and newer motor in good condition. After all, it is an 19 year old boat.

   Around 5K I would think from fisheye (  10/20/2007 9:28:00 AM
I had a 97 R81 that I sold for $8500 with a 150 EFI. It was in great shape but still took awhile to sell. I owned that model Ranger and really liked it but I think it has the wood transom in it which could cause problems. My two newer Rangers were also more fishable to me. I also owned the motor you are talking about. It was a good motor but SUCKED gas. Compared to the EFI it was terrible, and the EFI wasn't good.

There are newer boats out there with good prices on them.

You didn't comment on the condition of the trailer. What kind of condition is it in? Are you going to have to rebunk it, or replace tires. Did they have brakes then, and if so, what kind of condition are those in? I mention the trailer because I just spent a heck of a lot of money on my '00 Ranger trailer making it safe and reliable enough to carry my boat.

   "97" Intruder from dunno (  10/20/2007 3:38:00 PM
Is the engine a Ficht? If you were able to check the hours I would assume it is. I would'nt give you a penny for a "97" 150 Ficht.

Pretty sure the Intruder is a carbed engine.. from Toonafish  10/20/2007 5:58:00 PM
There are some that will pay top dollar for the older Ranger's. The 360's are the double step hull and one of the better ones that Ranger made.

Price wise, I would say $6500 - $8500 maybe $9k if it had new electronics and trolling motor.

   97 rude from dunno (  10/20/2007 7:02:00 PM
1997 was the first year of the Fichts. The Johnson was a Faststrike and the Evinrude was the Intruder. The reason I mention this is you can't get the hours of a carbed engine as it has no EMM.

If it is a Ficht - stay away from it from Whiteboat  10/20/2007 7:12:00 PM
regardless of new powerhead. This is the motor that pushed OMC into bankruptcy.

   Not Sure from reh3 (  10/20/2007 8:40:00 PM
I'm not sure, but I thought 87 was the last year for the wooden transom.

   Ranger from motorman (  10/20/2007 9:49:00 PM
360 is a great Ranger! The best hull ever. Easy Ranger boat to make run fast. 97 Ficht's were great. 98's SUCKED and 99 early production engines sucked too. Gen 3 ficht (mid 99 to 00) were super engines to own. And there are some 98's and 99's running around out in the field with 00 power heads on them. Great on fuel, easy on oil. Good luck.

mis information from jbass (  10/21/2007 1:58:00 PM
I believe there is some miss information on the 97 fichts. I had one. Rebuilt twice. Bad computer once. I would stay away from them. I spent two years trying to figure out what to do with mine, and its hard to re sell a boat with that motor. Nobody wanted the motor (trade in or re-powering). That was with a 1000.00 price tag on a 7 year old motor. Good luck.

   Intruder...pretty sure from drainplug (  10/21/2007 3:24:00 PM
I think Fichts were intro'ed in '97, but as mentioned before the 'Rude Intruder and Johnson Fast Strike were still available that year and are indeed the old "bulletproof" carbed engines of the day and NOT the Ficht of that model year

Intruders were available in 97. from xctycoach  10/21/2007 3:41:00 PM
I have a V4 115 Intruder on my boat. As I understand it the 150's were the V6 versions of that engine. I remember being told Intruders were "bulletproof". I broke mine first season. Dealer replaced the powerhead under warranty and in the 230+ hours since it hasn't so much as hiccupped. Guess I just got the bad one. I'd buy another in a heartbeat.

Its a ficht from johnny lightning (  10/23/2007 4:17:00 AM
Dunno's absolutly right, carbed models did not have an emm to show hours.OMC slapped the intruder-faststrike stickers on some of them figuring that if the public loved the faststrikes and intruders so much that if we put the name on the fichts than we will sell a lot of them.If the louvers are on the front of the cowling it is a ficht.

   360v from Capt. Billybob (  11/5/2007 9:31:00 AM
20 yer old hulls are still 20 years old. I would get a close nada value and add exactly what you spent to refurb it. Establish a price, put that as a reserve on e-bay and see what offers you get. That hull had great performance characteristics. Could be desireable, but age takes it toll on fiberglass construction. There are many newer rigs out there in good shape that are priced in the $7k to $9k range. $5k sounds reasonable for a boat of that age with the improvements. The 97 Intruder was the counterpart of the fst strike and they are not Ficht but carbuerated engines. If it is a ficht, sell the hull separately , tie a rope around the engine, and call it a 400 lb anchor! BB
