Power trim not working on 2004 225 Optimax

Rated:

Power trim on 2004 225 Mercury Optimax stopped working. it started yesterday. When I was getting ready to go, it was not working. I tinkered with the wires, check a few things and it started working. It worked fine when I was on lake.

After loading boat back on trailer, it was intermit again. Got boat home and it completely stopped working. Luckly motor is in trailerable position.

Does any one any idea of cause? Is it something I can fix myself? Is this fairly common for Mercury motors?

Also -can anyone recommend a Mercury service center in Lake Norman area (a lot of the dealers here focus on inboards)?

thanks

Pete

Do the relays click when you push the button? If not it is probably a problem with the power to the switches. It will be a red wire, look at cowl mounted switch wires this is where the controlbox switch gets it's power also. If I am not mistaken. Use a test light on the blue and green wires while working the switch and see if it will light. If not look at fuses. Pull the relays out and look for corrosion. You can also use the test light on the heavy blue and green wires that go to the trim motor, they should be connected by two large bullet connectors somewhere under the cowling. Unplug them, do not puncture insulation. If you have power in all these places you may have a trim motor that is failing.

thanks for the information. I am not getting any clicking or anything. When it works all three switches work. When it stops, it does not make any noise or do anything from any of the three switches.

I will check to power at the back like you recommended.

thanks
