    Bouncing Trim

Had to replace the trim unit on my outboard. Picked up a trim from a blown motor. When the motor is trimmed down it starts to bounce at the bottom end of the tilt mode. In the trim mode it is fine. I've never seen one do this. Am I correct in assuming I have a lot of air in the system?

Check your ground before anything else, I had similar issues with a merc optimax and it turned out to be a ground lead fastened to a painted surface. Not sure if this helps but it is located near the trim rams on a mercury

is your boat bouncing or trim bouncing? from Beartrap   5/29/2012 8:51:33 AM
can you explain this a little further?

With the boat sitting on the trailer in the driveway and the motor tilted all the way up. I start tilting the motor down and just before the unit goes into the trim mode it begins to bounce. It seems like after I removed the filler cap and replaced it, it nearly stopped but after repeated raising and lowering the motor it started to do it again. I'm thinking it is probably air and I will have to spend some time bleeding the unit.

told me that the trim was self bleeding. I changed the pump and put new lines on a boat I had several years ago and didn't bleed it. Worked fine.

Did you over fill the pump with fluid.
