    primer bulb question
from TN-hammer #10448 #10448

Rated:

I took my boat out the other night and could not get it to start. I noticed the primer bulb would not stay hard so tonight I unhooked the line from the bulb and it would not pump the gas out. So I guess the bulb is bad. I had just replaced it last year. OMC bulb. 130 Johnson

Is this correct?

After replacing, did engine run? from humminbird #11206 #11206  6/14/2012 9:27:36 PM
Is arrow on bulb pointing toward engine or the gas tank? Do you have the right size hold for your engine? Will engine run on a separate tank? The last question is most important to determine if problem is with your gas tank/line or witht he engine fuel system.

    Well I don't think it's the primer bulb from TN-hammer #10448 #10448  6/14/2012 9:45:58 PM
I went back and messed with the primer bulb and it is trying to pull suction. I unscrewed the line going into the tank and the ball is working fine. so I pulled the tube out of the tank and it was clean. So what could it be? The boat ran fine until the other day.

Ethanol goop from TheAmBASSador  6/14/2012 10:41:32 PM
at the end of pick-up tube/filter in fuel tank. Clean the end/pick-up and you should be fine. Even though your fuel dealer is saying there is not any ethanol in his gasoline...don't trust them completely and use a ethanol treatment every tank full.

   Been doing that and from TN-hammer #10448 #10448  6/14/2012 11:02:37 PM
the end of the pickup was clean as a pen.

fuel pump diaphragm from MikeF  6/15/2012 6:02:34 AM
The fuel pump diaphragm could be bad.

   MikeF it's a 130 johnson carbed motor best I can from TN-hammer #10448 #10448  6/15/2012 8:24:07 AM
tell there is nothing but line between the tank and the bulb. The pickup tube with screen(screen is clean like new) then the fitting with ball valve(ball is moving free and clean like new) then gas line to bulb(bulb will push air out and suck back on finger) then gas line to filter then gas line to vro thing to motor.

   fuel line from Dwight #10907 #10907  6/15/2012 8:57:29 AM
What kind of fuel line is running from the bulb to the motor. Is it the old gray line with red letters. That could be your problem since the ethanol eats the liner up in the fuek line and then it goes in to the filter. Have you had the carbs rebuilt lately. Ethanol eats up the rubber parts in the carbs also an if you haven't had them rebuilt with new resistant parts that could also be part of the problem.

   okay guys bear with me from TN-hammer #10448 #10448  6/15/2012 9:19:41 AM
How much suction should you have at the bulb. If it is working right should it pull a tight suction or a light suction if you have your finger on the bulb? I appreciate any and all suggestion but right now the motor is not in the equation. I am not getting gas from the tank to the bulb. The gas line is black with red writing on it, I can not remember what it said on it. Thanks for any and all help.

It just started working from Hammer  6/21/2012 10:11:15 AM
I was going to change out the bulb but squezzed it before I took it off and it pulled suction. I don't know if it was an air lock or what? Worked fine Sat and I caught a few fish.

I would keep that new bulb from Gene  6/21/2012 12:11:43 PM
on your boat, sounds like the old one will need to be replaced soon.
