I have to pump my gas bulb before my engine will start. I have never had to do this before. What is wrong?

   Have to Pump from Valiant2 #12358 #12358  9/28/2012 3:39:06 PM
What make and year is the engine? How old is the fuel line and bulb? Ethenol gas is eating up fuel lines. Might be time to update entire fuel line from tank to motor now.

Engine is a 2003...200hp Evinrude...Fuel line and bulb is the original. Mostly using non-ethenol fuel.

Suggest replacing the fuel pump from Brad  9/29/2012 11:17:21 AM
The diaphrams get stretched out and loose efficiency over time--Don't try to rebuild it, just get a new one and be done with it..

As said above replace the bulb from fatboy #9897  9/30/2012 10:16:10 AM
Pretty cheap and easy. If that doesn't fix it then dig deeper. You are looking at an almost 10 year old bulb, I'd say you got your money out of it.

Changing the bulb...Mechanic said to pump the bulb after boat sits awhile so the fuel pump won't be empty and mess up the bushings.

Thanks for all the advice.

bulb and line from Dwight #10907 #10907  9/30/2012 11:32:20 AM
If its the orginal bulb and line it needs to be replaced. Even when we had all non-ethanol gas nine years was a long time for a bulb to last. Sunlight will break one down in three or four years.

I just changed my bulb because of it's age. The check valve in the bulb went bad and after planing the boat off and running a short distance, the motor was starving for fuel and would come off plane and sometimes die. When I pumped the bulb again, it would run fine for a short while. No more issues after changing the bulb.
