  Pro four is a verado. Its got a smaller gear case which may help top speed but its 100 lbs heavier. I guess it depends on what else your hanging on the back.

   I know from 5keepers  1/1/2013 8:02:46 PM
 little here but looking at Mercury's web sites here are some thoughts:
Under Mercury Marine there are listings for 300 HP Pro Four and 300 HP Verado. There is not a listing for 300 HP Optimax

Under Mercury Marine racing there is a listing for 300HP Optimax.

For the boat your considering I would go with Mercury's latest model four stroke.

I would look at the warranties on the different engines. I am thinking an engine classified as racing may have less warranty.

   For a bassboat, I would go with the 300XS from Spookchucker #10778 #10778  1/2/2013 11:46:56 AM
 the Verado is over 200 lbs heavier, with fly by wire throttle. Give me a direct connection wiht the throttle, less to go wrong.

The 300XS is the racing division, and you do get a shorter warranty for a better built motor. But the racing division is under a different budget, so they don't get the longer warranties, even though they are built better.

 Of course we have an opinion on boats also, though on the engines we really like the Verado format. There is opposition to the engine on resale, though your wanting a luxury ride it would seem and not a hot rod. There is the factory warranty on Verado with extension for up to seven years also. The Pro XS is a fine engine if you want two stroke, however from your decision on rides the performance and fuel mileage are not your mission. The Verado steering is the berries and digital throttle and shift is good on any brand.

Luxury = Verado
Performance = Pro XS

Take your pick!

 I have a 2012 Z522 with the 300 Verado Pro. Searched high and low for one, as I knew that was the engine wanted. Luxury is a great word to describe the combo, or any combo with the Vrod. I have ran a few props on this boat. It is a 69-71mph tx loaded boat. The fastest speed loaded was with a 24p Fury at 71mph, but I run a 23p rev4 as that prop is THE prop for that combo. It is 69mph boat with the rev4. Holeshot is great. Very little bow lift. Up and going quick. Lift is unbelievable for a barge. The steering is the best period!! Nothing compares. If you are willing to sacrifice a couple mph on the top end, then get the Verado. Don't listen to a lot of the stories about these engines. Most bass fisherman have never been in a boat with these engines. The weight of the engine is a none issue on a big boat like a Z522, 21xs, BC Jag......On an ally or Bullet, then yes the weight may be an issue. I am in NC if you are close you can run the boat. It would take 1 turn at speed for you to forget about any other engine. Let me know if you need any other help.
