What is the best shallow running crankbait. All the reports have been saying shallow crankbaits. I usually throw worms but I need to go buy some crankbaits. What are the best brands. Should I go with the Lucky Craft, Japanese, balsa, or american made lures. Thanks for the input. I heard about this bait called a Reaction Innovations Method Crankbait. Anyone heard of them. Thanks again!!!!

You can't beat the good ol' Bagley Balsa Bs, but I am wanting to try the Lucky Craft BDS 4. Mann's 1- and 4- are great cranks also.

It's enough to boggle your mind isn't it? There's a crankbait for every situation and every color possible. I've noticed alot of guys swear by the Poes 400. Me, I'm cheap, I like Norman cranks. Not to expensive and seem to work well for me. Good luck.....Rich

I love shadraps both #5 And #7. Clear water, shad pattern, dingy or muddy water, chartruse. Norman's little N and Poe bothmake good cranks. Good luck.

Do yourself a favor and try a Thunder Shad 103. This is a balsa wood crankbait and one of the best in my opinion. My two favorite colors are citrus shad and civil war. The citrus shad has been a better color for the shallower baits civil war has produced a little better out deeper. I love throwing his bait around weeds it comes through very well. Good Luck and get some Thunder Shads.

I agree with the above but want to add Bandit crankbaits, love thier small size and the run true right out of the pack.

The 103 and 404 Thundershads are super.they come through cover very good

Also... from Jeff Hahn  10/13/2004 9:45:00 PM
Johna: All of the responses above gave you good info. Its always hard to beat a Shad rap. I've also heard good things about the Thunder Shad and have caught some good fish over the years on the old Bagley's. But, after having fished all of these, my first choice is a D Bait. It comes through cover, especially wood, great. In fact, when it bounces off the cover it looks exactly like a shad flitting along a log feeding on algae. Its the best shallow crankbait I have ever used.

I've been using the BDS 3 and 4 with Lucky Craft with superb results!! Great stained and muddy water crank. Good wide wobble and Man sized hooks to hold them. THis bait was designed by Gerald Swindle 2004 Bass Angler of the Year

Here is the link and color selections

Angersadise carries them :)

Bandit 200 series is a great little bait, 6-8 foot Fat-a and the LC cb200 moonsault both have multi-rattles that are high pitched and not Knockers..Works for me..BvB

What colors do you usually fish with in muddy water on the lucky craft? i've been wanting to try those for a while just haven't had a chance to.

Give the Luhr Jensen Speed Trap a shot they are a great crank. I use them all the time and love them. Good to run over the top of weeds or around gravel and wood. Good luck

BDS colors..... from Triton Mike  10/14/2004 2:40:00 PM
Varinabassin, For muddy and stained water I like WHITE!! Any colors with alot of white in them I like for those conditions. White and Gray, Old TN Shad, Lavender shad type colors. Muddy and stained water turn baitfish and most other fish a pale white color so it matches the hatch well in those muddy or stained water conditions. Granted the BDS's work very well in stained and muddy water without the rattles in the BDS. I'm almost afraid what would happen if they added rattles :). I just might tinker on that one and see what happens :)

   Bds 3! from kevin_baxter (216.69.63.254)  10/14/2004 3:54:00 PM
Triton Mike, I second that motion. I am putting the hammer down on fish on KY lake with a BDS 3 right now. If you water has some color, but mostly clear. Use American Shad, or Aurora Brown. Those two colors just cannot seem to keep the fish off. They are eating it up. I've went through 3 AS BDS 3s this week. Plus they can come through a barb wire fence.

thanks fellas , anybody fish the lucky crafts much in rivers.

A couple more options for you. from Draper (63.113.128.5)  10/15/2004 12:26:00 PM
Stanford Lures has finally decided to start selling the C-Flat and the Pug over here on a widespread basis. These baits are two of my longtime absolute favorites. Before now, they were only available overseas or in very small quantities directly from them. The website has been updated to include them.

Okay, I told you, but don't use them in Alabama or Georgia, please!

   I can't believe the Mann's Baby 1 minus was only mentioned... from spinnerB8  10/15/2004 4:49:00 PM
...once. That and the 4- are staples around here for shallow and over the grass fishin'.

You can certainly spend more money, but I don't think you'll find a better shallow crank.

I have to second the comments above on the bandits. the 100 and 200 series in black splatterback and chartreuse/blue back are hard to beat in my book. In the spring the spring craw and crawfish with an orange belly are very good colors. Try'um and if they don't catch fish I'll buy them from you. Honestly they are geat baits..

tiny cranks from fishingaddict (69.2.237.146)  10/19/2004 1:05:00 PM
Try tiny cranks that are designed for sunfish and other panfish. They work great in cold water. Also yes I have caught 4+ bass on these.
