from Mike Whitten

Rated:

I probably should have asked this question at the Classic, but I never made it to the Berkley booth area---SO,

What is the difference/distinction between Berkley Gulp and Gulp Alive?

Thanks,

Mike Whitten

Gulp from The Dutchman #10818  2/26/2009 6:14:41 PM
There isn't any difference. Gulp is made from a water-based resin where other baits are made from an oil based resin (PVC) Gulp Alive just comes in a pail with juice and Gulp comes in a bag. The scent used in Gulp is also water based. Powerbait is also a water-based scent but different from Gulp.

one of the problems with the original from eriedude #11072  2/26/2009 6:36:10 PM
gulp was in the packaging. the baits were vacuum packed with a small amount of gulp liguid. some of the baits would become distorted and harder while on the shelf. not to mention what happens after opening. gulp alive packaging eliminates those problems and also allows for a softer formula while making rejuvination of stale baits easier.all around its a better product. this from a big fan of gulp since '05.

While it's good stuff the damn pail/lid and worth a damn. Leaks like a tin roof.

   Gulp Alive from Rob_in_MN #11851  2/26/2009 11:26:57 PM
Gulp Alive is softer I think, and as Eriedude said, the containers make the shapes more consistent and kink-free. Gulp and G. Alive aren't exactly the same substance though, according to Berkley.

MikeB - I've taken to storing my Gulp alive containers in a small softside lunch cooler. If it leaks, the crud stays in the cooler and you can just rinse it out now and then. I found a cooler that holds 2 of the oblong tubs, and I toss a variety of shapes in a couple tubs, and store the rest at home. You can mix and match colors in one container all you want - doesn't hurt 'em.

Gulp Alive is like crack to smallmouths sometimes... It's amazing stuff.

Thanks, I can't believe it's too hard to find a container thats leak proof tho? For $20.00 a pail no less.

is it worth the mess? from MikeF  2/27/2009 8:25:33 AM
I went through a period two years ago when I was using this stuff a lot but there was a constant mess. It leaks out of the bags, the tubs seal like a colander, if you leave one on a hook for 30 minutes out of the water it's worthless. At the end of the day everything in the boat is covered with the juice.

I just don't know if it's makes enough difference to be worth the aggravation.

Mike from Jeff Hahn  2/27/2009 10:35:01 AM
Mike: For smallies, Gulp is well worth the mess! Like Rob said, it's like crack to them! You need to make a trip to Yankeeland and give smallies a shot!

MikeW & MikeB and others - containers for Gulp from bassfish  2/27/2009 11:40:25 AM
Next time you go to Wal-Mart look in the Tupperware section. Look for a product called Lock&Lock. The containers use four tabs, one on each side, with a gasket inside the perimeter of the lid. The tubs can be turned upside down for days without a single drop being lost. Furthermore, you can mix different Gulp products in one container without bleeding. It makes it much easier to change a color or type of Gulp.

The Gulp Alive liquid is liquid gold for Gulp products. You can place Gulp products back in the liquid after use if you want to make a change to prevent drying up.

Good Luck guys---Steve Lucarelli

I'm sure you're right but it would be great if they could figure out a way to get the effect without the mess. Maybe I'll try one of the containers mentioned above.

Anybody have berkley naturals. This was before gulp & it's so good they discontinued it.I still have some in a small grub that i use for ice fishing. This stuff is so good i cut these grubs into small 1/64oz sizes & that's all you need. Can't keep the fish off.Problem is berkley stopped makin the stuff years ago.
Anybody have any left.

The real pain is having from The perchjerker  2/27/2009 9:11:43 PM
to buy new pails. You can't just buy the lures and put them in pails you already have.At least you can't buy the 4" craws, maybe it isn't the same with other pail bound baits.

Hey TMike...Listen to Steve from Marc #12028  3/2/2009 8:07:57 PM
He turned me on to the containers he mentioned above from Wal-Mart (Lock & Lock) and they do work great! They come in different sizes also and work great for hooks and other items you don't want to rust. No leaks with these containers.

ciao,
Marc
