Commandments of "Being In The Zone"

Commandments of being “In the zone”. Please participate.

Maybe a rehash in ways. Just to have it all in one place the thought was to itemize those things that will get our baits into “the zone” faster, keep it there longer.

Example: Somewhat deeper water. First, we have to either spot fish on electronics, or know the likelihood of the presence of fish from experience. Then, we have to understand the characteristics of the cover, or structure. Finally, we have to realize the relationship, habits, and nature of any seasonally available prey items. Once this lion’s share of the work is done, we can get into the mechanics of catching fish.

Did you ever notice how many posts and replies in all of “fishingdoms” web pages are on equipment? It’s because, equipment is what we can feel and see up front, and stuff we have control over – in a way, it’s really a no-brainer. However, without this next part, the equipment part is just buying, not fishing.

In somewhat deeper, clear water, 15 feet and shallower, relatively open water, with adjacent structure/cover not too far away or intermittent,

1) Longer casts

2) Thinner diameter line

3) Sinking line (fluorocarbon)

4) Sinking lures

5) Higher gear ratio reel

6) Upsized hooks (without upsetting lure action)

7) Determining angle and lure approach to parts of cover, or structure – boat position

8) Cast with the wind but retrieve at right angles to or against current

9) As lure hits water reel and sweep rod at the same time, afterwards stop and go – darting action – pause bait for effect

10) Retrieve with rod tip toward the waters surface

Again, in order to make this presentation more meaningful, it needs your input on specific situations, conditions, seasons, depth, water color, etc. Together, we can help a bunch of folks, including ourselves, become better fishermen. Stingy people need not reply. If we were to take each item into definition, we’d have chapter and verse.

Plant, have you ever asked a question or do you just provide answers to the unwashed masses?
