    Anyone Night Fishing Yet?

Water temps in my area are in the upper fifties, low sixties. By day, largemouth are in the shallows cruising and in the shoreline bushes, approaching the spawn period. Smallmouth are spawning now or awfully close. Does anyone have experience night fishing this time of year. I typically start night fishing right after spawn, but often wonder why not to try now, while fish are in the shallows preparing to spawn. If nighttime temps are mild enough would the bass leave the shallows during the cooler temps of nighttime and return during the heat of the day? Do some remain shallow all night. Do bass spawn at night time? Lots of questions I know!

We started night bass from TheAmBASSador  5/4/2012 10:27:13 PM
fishing about over a month ago at Lake Martin. The first couple of weekend nights the bite was awesome around the pier lights. LM and spots in the 4 & 5 lb. range were around multiple lights and some of the largest crappie I'd ever seen. I even caught a 7 lb. catfish and 2 salts over 12 lbs. I wore out 3 ShadRaps in two weekends of nightfishing and them babies ain't cheap. But the fun has been worth it. Going again tomorrow night with fresh ShadRaps. I haven't tried humps and points at night yet because the pier lights have been so much fun. But since the giant moon is suppose shine tomorrow night, I'll probably try a couple of humps/points with CR.

   shallow bass from Swimbait1 #15419  5/5/2012 9:00:44 PM
one of our favorite techniques in VA for night fishing is the shad spawn on rip rap. If the fish are shallow during the day, should be all night as well. Except for a major cold front I would say. we fish tight to the bank with topwater or shallow running crankbait. Main thing is to hold on! Mr. Linesides been known to rip the rod out of your hands if you are not paying attention.

   nite bite from ridgerunner6901 #14042 #14042  5/7/2012 6:35:30 PM
We just got back from a week at ky lake and found the night bite to be much better than the daylight hours. Caught fish on the c rig ( which was the primary daytime pattern) along with black trick worms, spinner baits and jigs. Had as many as 54 fish in one dark till 12 trip. Best bag was 17 lbs all caught after dark

What Seasonal Pattern/Period are you Guys fishing in? from BASSNBOB #18956  5/8/2012 3:14:05 AM
Guys...what seasonal pattern are you night fishing right now....prespawn, spawn, post spawn? I live in NJ. We are entering spawn right now. I have no experience night fishing the spawn period. Ridgerunner...sounds like you have a great night bite happening right now. What seasonal pattern are you in, in your part of the country?

I was actually on vacation in western ky... I don't catch um like that in nw nc. But there were fish in all stages of spawing plus there was the early stages of the shad spawn so I guess everything just lined up to make it perfect, most fish caugvht were bucks hanging around around for their next romance, but all the bigger fish were post spawn females up shallow on moonlit points feeding up on shad
