    Light Grass Flipping

I heard that Fred Roumbanis was flipping grass at the recent PAA with light weights as low as 1/8 of an ounce. Have any of you guys tried this and what would be the reason? I could see it being quieter than a hunk of 1 1/2 oz tungsten. Obviously he had to be fishing scattered grass as a smaller weight would not penetrate thick mats.

grass comes in a lot of different styles from Randy B  8/16/2012 8:36:07 PM

In Michigan, we have a lot of inland lakes that are "natural" and there's many different types of grass - few that ever mat. Some is tall and stringy and you can get a tube thru it without grass buildup pretty easily. We'll often let the wind drift us thru some varied grass, dropping lures into holes and at the edges. 1/8 oz doesn't surprise me. We do stuff weightless.

   Water willow from Waldo #11975 #11975  8/16/2012 9:20:25 PM
I believe he was flipping water willow in very shallow water. I have not had as much success flipping it as I have the thicker grasses but I admittedly havn't spent as much time doing it. It was surprising because I would not think this grass would provide the shade needed for bass to hide in it in the middle of summer. You live and learn I guess maybe preconceived thoughts have been holding me back from catching fish.
