The last couple of years the fishing at the lake where I usually fish has dropped off big time.I'm catching far less fish than I usually do. Last Friday my boating partner catches a 2 lb. snakehead, now I know why I'm catching fewer fish. Why would some idiot want to destroy a good lake by sneaking and releasing the fish in the lake? Small bluegill are nearly gone, the crappy fishing use to be real good, now they are almost impossible to catch. I'm glad that I still practice catch and release on the bass that I catch, maybe that will give them a fighting chance.

have a way of getting into places, and no one seems to know why or how.

Snakehead tournaments with a big payout! from Brad  6/19/2012 7:08:00 PM
Get your state agencies to pony up some money and put a bounty on that nusiance specie. Arrange for a local rendering concern to pick up the unwanted snakeheads so there would be no waste. (or purchase, depending on the state law)

Create catagories that will be most beneficial to the eradication effort in your area.

Get creative--but get started now!

Everyone has seen what happens when this gets out of hand:

   Uh Bradley from Hutch #10968 #10968  6/19/2012 7:50:00 PM
You do realize that the insane ones like you within Peta would have riots across the country if the snakeheads were harmed...... YOu do realize that, right? Try another stupid idea instead......... Hutch

Um Hutch... from Brad  6/19/2012 8:07:43 PM
You do get the irony of your statement--

I hope!

Invasive species are a serious issue.

So is Peta from Hutch #10968 #10968  6/19/2012 8:20:55 PM
They had riots and wanted to sue Wheaties when they (Wheaties) put Denny Brauer's picture on a
Wheaties box......... Were you even aware of that......? Called him and people like him "fish Murderers" I say if the snakeheads were brought to this country before they were grown fish and have lived a lawful life they should be granted amnesty and be allowed to roam anywhere they wish within our water system...... Hutch

Also Brad..... I heard it from good sources that from Hutch #10968 #10968  6/19/2012 9:17:35 PM
The head of SFT is planning to sue any individual/group/ who knowingly harms Snakehead Fish as they are fish also......and deserve the same rights as other fish and should not be discriminated against and have filed suits to outlaw the word "snakehead" as being a discrimanatory and derogatory hate word........and the fish should be referred to as Serpenthead...... Barack Obama has promised to look into the situation and reminds everyone that he knows the pain a carp feels in a world of bass fishermen....... Stay tuned....... Hutch

Peta is behind the spread. from Funky  6/20/2012 12:34:18 AM
They decided the best way to get rid of fishing is to get rid of the fish, so they are putting them in all our waters! Bwad told me he saw Ingrid down by the water and then there was a splash... you tell me what other conclusion could there be?

Ohhhhh no Funky from Hutch #10968 #10968  6/20/2012 1:45:10 AM
Only so long until they rape Brad's beloved free dive area 90-150 nautical miles off the shore of California..... Those heathens.............. Hutch

It seems that aquatic invasives are not nearly as stringently regulated...... from Jmac #10965 #10965  6/20/2012 11:23:00 AM
as terestrials. I mean, look at the silver carp and the problems it is causing, and everyone just matter-of-factly talks about how an Arkansas catfish farmer introduced them and they accidentally escaped. Did he break any laws? Was he prosecuted? Does he even realize the millions of dollars he has cost local economies? I can guarantee you that if someone introduced a mammal that severely impacted the deer population, the whole state of Arkansas would be up in arms.

Snakeheads now found in Vancouver, from Funky  6/20/2012 1:04:43 PM
so it's not they are spreading through natural reproduction... someone is introducing them. And it wouldn't surprise me at all to learn that folks like Peta are doing it. They have that kind of a warped sense of issues that most tree huggers have... like it's better to burn a SUV to the ground... in the atmosphere... than have it burn an extra cup of gasoline over a regular car.

Funky from Brad  6/20/2012 6:45:18 PM
You have ABSOLUTELY NO EVIDENCE that the invasive species were spread by peta. They have no interest in upsetting the natural balance of ANY ecosystem.

You post a link to any legitimate source that claims peta is behind invasive species, and i will post many links that point straight to the real culprits!

We worried that snakeheads would hurt the Potomac when their presence went public. The exact opposite is true. We're catching more bass, heavier bass, and stronger bass than ever. Same-same for perch and crappie coming out of the river. The circle of life thing has prevailed.

Which lake are you talking about? Did you call VDGIF?

Where did I say I had... from Funky  6/20/2012 10:16:08 PM
evidence? I said it wouldn't surprise me! I think proof is on that same legitimate website where you get most of your facts, like the one that W blew up the World Trade Center and Red China is launching missles off LA!

   snake heads from Dwight #10907 #10907  6/21/2012 8:43:43 AM
We need to create a commercial market for the snakehead meat and the netters will take care of the problem in the Potomac. Also need to remind people don't put them back alive. Feed them to the turtles. They were introduced into the Potomac by a guy who wanted to eat them. You need to tell Va officals were they are so they don't spread from that lake if they really are snakeheads. Could be something else.

   tournaments from Dwight #10907 #10907  6/21/2012 9:02:17 AM
They had a snakehead tournament in May in DC and brought in 1400lbs. Not bad for one day but the states MD and VA won't put more money into getting rid of them. Airborne as far as them not hurting anything yet they latest report shows them expanding through the bay and getting into the Rap and the James in the near future.

   Snakehead from CrissC1  6/21/2012 4:31:12 PM
The lake is in Stafford Co. near Fredericksburg. It is one of the resevoirs for the county. I called the snakehead hotline set up for Virginia waters and reported it. It was definally a snakehead. I was thinking that being that thr Potomac is so close that someone caught it there and brought it to the lake and released it.

It could have been released by anyone thats the problem of letting people bring pets into the country. Look at Florida and the pythons they have now.
