First off why do you suspect sugar in the tank? from spinnerB8  12/10/2003 8:31:00 AM
Those symptoms usually start with an argument, then lead to anger and somebody pissed off at you, then escalate retribution.

Could it just be cold weather? Or is it really cold-hearted?

   car from Dan (66.147.54.49)  12/10/2003 8:36:00 AM
its a 96 camaro usually fires right up

it was just odd that all of a sudden it wouldn't crank

Maybe somebody... from Shad Rapper  12/10/2003 9:20:00 AM
in Greenville got tired of you running amuck around all the BFHP boards acting juvenile and using multiple handles and spouting nonsense?

Just guessing? When's your appointment with Dr. Sam?

Could it be... from Jeff Hahn  12/10/2003 10:41:00 AM
Dan: Often times, when you have a problem that crops up all of a sudden, it is eletrical. I would suspect the coil if I had to guess. But, if you've had a lot of rain and moisture, it could also be damp spark plug wires.

you didn`t say what year so from fatboy (216.74.132.78)  12/10/2003 10:53:00 AM
the first thing i would do is to ck. and see if it is getting gas. the next thing i would do is ck. for spark. you want a good blue spark. SNAP!!!. if you have no spark i would ck. the dist. cap. ck. for moisture, etching, and corroision(sp?). next ck. the rotor. i could be that your module went out. chevy is bad for that. i have had 3 of them go out over the years. 1 would run bad after the thing would warm up,the other 2 ran fine. that is untill the next time i went to start them. the sugar thing is BS. the most it will do is plug your filter. if it did make it down in the moter it would burn up when it fired. no fuel could be fuel filter, fuel pump or fuel pump fuse. i would ck. for spark first.if it is no gas you shoulg be able to get it to fire up on either

What do you mean by whine? from 40Indian (216.177.91.9)  12/10/2003 11:08:00 AM
When you turn the key it???

Fatboy pretty much got it right-I just wouldn't do things in that order. If its significantly colder today where your at, it could very well be the battery. That's an easy check. Try jumping it and see if it will crank. If the battery is completely dead, it still should crank but possibly won't start. If it starts, take it to the nearest auto parts store and get the battery tested. If the batteries allright have them test the alternator, cause its likely that. If you try jumping it and it wont turn over, it could be the starter or starter cellinoid.

Sugar in the tank from Farallon (64.60.243.106)  12/10/2003 11:10:00 AM
That happened to a neighbor 30-35 years ago.

She thought it happened at work (parking lot). She owned a coffee shop. She thought an unhappy customer did it.

She was able to drive home and partially to work the next day. Her engine stopped. I wasn't there, but I would guess the engine siezed.

Based on her experiences, if your engine is turning over, it isn't sugar.

First you wrote whine, to me that means it won't "catch" or fire, then you wrote won't crank. I wonder if you need a new battery if it won't crank. Marginal battery, cold weather, old cables.

I think sugar crystalizes/carmelizes inside the combustion chamber, freezing the rings first, then later stopping pistons.

Sugar in the gas tank........... from JHawk  12/10/2003 11:11:00 AM
I had a neighbor a long time ago who was really pissed at me. I had about a 72 Volkswagan with a 911 Porsche engine in it. No Kidding! Went to take it somewhere and it just locked up about 5 miles from the house. Locked up........I tell ya. My mechanic told me later that someone had put sugar in the gas tank.

Fire up from Dan (66.147.54.49)  12/10/2003 11:12:00 AM
It will turn over it just doesn't fire up

Let's get one thing straight here... from UFM82  12/10/2003 11:33:00 AM
Sugar DOES NOT dissolve in gasoline. They are both carbon based compounds and will not interact with each other. If you get sugar dumped in the tank, it may clog up the lines, the filter or an orifice just by being there but it doesn't dissolve. Dump some in a cup of gas and see what happens. Nothing.

Now, if there happens to be some water in there, it will dissolve in the water. Then it becomes a goo in the tank that the fuel pump won't move. If it does happens to get into the fuel system past the filter, it can cause damage in the engine but to get that much sugar to dissolve, there would be so much water in the system that the engine wouldn't run anyway.

Sugar is an old myth that people continue to perpetuate. I've never been able to verify a sugared tank claim in 20 years as a mechanic.

If the vehicle cranks but doesn't start, it could a a myriad of things. The simple fact that it is a POS Chevy is the first strike.

   ECM module. from Got2fish  12/10/2003 11:49:00 AM

you need 3 things to make it run...air,fuel,spark. if it has fuel and air then...spark?

Have Chevy; Had same problem...Here what to do>>>> from Arby  12/10/2003 12:52:00 PM
Have to agree with Got2fish...it is probably the ECM Module which is located in and under the distributer cap.

Check to see if you have power to the fuel injecters using a continuity light....forget about using a Nord Light as a check...if the module is bad the Nord light won't work. If you have power to the injectors it is probably the module since it quit running very suddenly. You can replace it yourself if you are handy with tools and remember to MARK which wire goes where on the distributer cap....ECM Module costs about 50-60 bucks at Napa.

If this doesn't fix it check to see if all the fuses and the ignition relay is good...you will probably find that the ECM Module is the culprit since it is generally the most often componet to go south...

Hope this helps!!!

Hes been trolling over on the Leper board for a few days now with no bites. Hes just a wantabe loose from school on his puter.

Fatboy, we have quit trolling on the legit boards for years. Its too easy, like shooting fish in a barrel. If we want kicks we go over on the potlickers page and pull some rattle traps there.

I just pull Gunny's chain about football hehe.

None of them have the nutz to troll over here anymore. All they do is stay home and play grabass while telling each other how great they are or pretending to be homos and laughing about it. This person has to much talent to be from there.
