I have a trip planned to Weiss the ist of Nov. and was wondering if its too low to make the 450 mile trip. I know the lake pretty well but also know its dangerous even when its up at full pool. Is JR's ramp still ok to put in b/c its usually tough there in Nov. at normal levels? Thanks

from what I understand the Canal/Leesburg ramp and Hog den ramps are still good but you never know about the Power co. they will take out water over night.LOL If you plan of getting out of the channel have a push pole with you just in case.just kidding. It is real low and dangerous even if you know the lake. Good luck on your trip.

   Weiss water level from jackc10 (70.222.201.117)  10/9/2007 5:42:00 PM
I have a new boat so I have been doing the breakin hours by cruising around Weiss. Seems like a good way to learn my new home lake.

You can check on the level at: http://www.lakeweiss.info/Level.asp

Ie run from the dam to about the end of the markers in the rivers and about two miles shy of the GA 100 bridge up the Coosa in the last ten days. The channel markers are your friend, plus a good map and depth finder.

Only main channel issue was near the Alabama Belle where the channel seems to have silted up in places and the markers are still in the old location.I suggest staying on the outside of the curve. Up stream look out for birds standing in what should be the channel and watch for floaters downstream before you turn towards the hog den/Weiss mart area and the bridge.

I have heard JR's still has ramp open. I was by there yesterday and from the water it looked like it was in use. Hog Den/Weiss Mart is open, using the narrower ramp in back of the store, not the wide one near the bridge. The State Ramp on the causeway is open and you can launch at Riverside. Putting the boat back on the trailer at Riverside is a problem. The cut through to the river is still OK.

Push pole suggestion is correct.

FWIW, I think Alabama Power has done well to keep what water in Weiss they have given the historic drought and the demands on the Etowah basin in Georgia. Serious rain is needed. It is drizzling a little right now. We need more than that.
