Submitted by jonk (68.47.133.71) from ARKANSAS on 7/8/04 8:39:00 PM

Cleaning out a gun cabinet today and found a fishing rod tucked in the back behind my first shotgun. The rod is a browning boron 5 1/2 ft pistol grip. line wt 8-20lbs...lure wt. 3/8-1oz. this rod is in great shape and why i put it in the cabinet many years ago...i dont remember. Is it worth anything other then fond memories? thanks...jon kitta

If you list it on E-bay you will get a nice price for it. I,ve seen them go for as much as $100.00.

rods are not available any more. I had 6 of the BPS Boron High Velocity that were stolen. I have never found anything I liked as well. Put a reel on it and give it a try.

and I paid around 100 bucks for it back when I bought it in the 80's. Nice rods... just a little heavy.

There pretty brittle. I seen at least one break......

  5. 7/18/04 4:56:00 PM Submitted by Tom Kirkman (4.152.57.43) from NORTH CAROLINA says browning
Those (Browning) were Silaflex rods, and like the Fenwick Boron X rods were about 15% to 20% boron, the rest graphite. Technology passed them by long ago, but they achieved cult status to a lot of fishermen. I'd not be surprised if you could get your original purchase price back for it today. Perhaps even a bit more.
