This is a good deal from Fisherboy #10852  9/17/2010 10:10:46 AM

Thump, you might want to consider holding on to one of the 703s and one of the 704s ...

By the way, if anyone knows how to get a hold of "He who shall not be named" he might be interested in a 704 or two. The last time I talked with him, he blew up his last one.

who makes those blanks now? from StevieP  9/17/2010 1:25:07 PM
 did someone buy them out?

A long time ago, I had a rod made by a former board sponsor (who left to start and then bury his own 'bassrods.com' company. You know who...).

Anyway, the rod he built me was 7'6" medium power with (I think) a mod-fast action. It was termed a splitshot/dropshot rod, but I think it was built on the IP 762 popping rod blank.

Anyone know if a similar blank is available from elsewhere?

No one from Fisherboy #10852  9/17/2010 2:02:47 PM

ATC bought out Shikari and went out of business about a year or so after that. They continued production of the SHII and SHIII graphite, but bailed on the SHX line up due to the high failure rate and came out with SHV graphite, which was no where near the SHX.

The SHX blanks are the shizzle, but they do have a tendency to explode. But if the ones still around should be fine as long as you take care of them.

I never heard of the IP762. What type of rod are you looking for?

open water tube/grub/4"senko/dropshot spinning rod from StevieP  9/17/2010 2:51:55 PM
I have a St. Croix LT 68MXF spinning rod that I use now, that's fine, but if I wanted to do some dropshotting, it's just a bit too stiff for me.

I'm all set with casting gear, and have some shorter spinning rods, but I want something I can really fling a smaller bait a long distance with. The 6'8" is currently my longest spinning rod.

   Lamiglas from Fisherboy #10852  9/17/2010 3:20:04 PM

If you like the 68MXF, you'll love Lamiglas' LP843. It's very smiliar to the 68MXF, but it's 7-foot and the tip is much softer. The LP844 is closer to teh 68MXF, but it still has a slightly softer tip, butmore power. So the LP843 should be what you are looking for.

You could also extended it to 7'3" super easy and still retain a split grip. Extending any longer would be more labor intensive to maintain the same cosmetics.

Lots of Rods left from Hellathump #12313  9/24/2010 12:34:49 PM
Lots of inquirys but no takers? I think there priced fairly. I have sent pics etc. So if anyone wants to owna rod that compares favorably to any of the top manufacturers for a fraction of the cost, these are it. These rods built custom 3-5 yrs ago would run $250-$350 a rod.....Hope that helps

Still a few available from Hellathump #12313  9/27/2010 8:18:22 PM
rods still available. I believe a great bang for the buck.
