What do you all know about an Abu Garcia Revo SX. It is on sale for $129.99 at Gander Mountain and I'd like to try something different. All the rest of my reels are Shimano Curados and I think Calcuttas (the round metal ones).

The SX comes... from Funky  6/5/2012 12:41:25 AM
in both 6.4 and 7.1 ratios. It has a mag brake system as opposed to a centrifugal system. Decent reel... the best feature is carbon matrix drag washers, the worst is it eats line guide pawls very fast. If you don't keep an eye on it you'll have to replace both the pawl and the worm gear. After market ceramic pawls seem to be the way to go. The other bad thing is if the anti-reverse roller bearing fails, you have to buy a whole new sideplate, as it is pressed in.

I've got two and am NOT impressed by them. I like the profile they cast well but after a couple of years they feel very LOOSE to me.

Not a reel for longevity. It has some of the same characteristics as most of the subbed out Korean reels with the plastic clutch mechanism and the fact they do eat pawls and the AR Bearing set up is not to be desired. Part availability is questionable at best.

For that amount of money a new Citica could be bought and used for the next 15 years or so.

I probably own all Shimanos for a reason.
