Ok, I need some help from the reel experts out there. I have about a dozen older Garcia Silver Max's and they back reel, typically when someone sets the hook. Can ya'll help out with suggestions. I am guessing that it might be the anti reverse bearings and if that is the suspect bearing do you know what size they are so I can order from Boca.

Thanks,
USMCFISH

The Silver Max and all the Revo styled reels have a factory pressed in anti-reverse roller clutch and are not serviceable. The only thing you can do is call Abu Garcia and buy a new side-plate.

Hi. Now and then these things get tramp extra grease in the needles. Sometimes a deep cleaning saves them.
I cannot recall if these reels use the German 'INA' brand one way clutch. Easy to spot, as this info's on the cage.
F-223251.

If they do, replacments can be had from Jack Erskine in Australia (he has a web page), Mike's reel in Abbotsford, BC, and me. About 10.00 USD and stamps.

The trick is in getting the old one out, and the new one in.
If this is the bearing, please advise, and I can point you to a web tutorial on re and re (remove and reinstall)

Thank, Ken.

If your silver max is marked 17-00, or 17-01 on the frame foot, the IAR brg is replaceable according to the drawings at Purefishing. goto abugarcia dot com, click support, look left and click schematics, type silver max, and click
search.

By golly Ken... from Funky  6/29/2012 3:56:55 PM
you are correct, according to the schematic. I've never seen one that comes out. All, or I guess I should say most, other Revo styled reels are factory pressed. Do you know if it comes out easy like most removable ones or is that the web tutorial you were talking about. I'd like to see it in any case, if you could post the URL or send it to me... thanks!

OK here is the link to Alan Tani's board...out of California, for the IAR installation. Me, I had a dedicated tool made that's easier to use, because it does not need a vise.

Prior, I used one socket, an Allen socket screw, some washers, a hex nut and wrench, and an allen key for the screw.
