 Hi,

Does anyone remember the original cost of the SHIMANO Bantam Black Magnum - Fightin' Star when it first came out in 1990? Its a lovely low-profile little baitcaster with two-speed I think. Would apprciare it if you can help me remember what it cost. Thanks Andrew

Which one are you talking about ???? There are several from Don Neidig  6/28/2001 6:55:00 AM
model numbers for the Black Magnum series. The 1987 Catalog shows a #200 for $52.90 and a 100 for $41.97.

The 1988 Bass Pro Shop Catalog has The fightin' star listed at 74.97 and 79.97. I had several of these reels and they really to not compare with todays Shimanos. I would compare them to the EX Quantum Series a few years back. I sold all of mine recently because I knew I would never use them again. The TX's were similiar, however they had a smaller graphite frame and held up better than the larger Bantams. Today's technology of aluminum frames and metal bearings instead of bushings has produced a better reel. The fighting star is over 10 years old.

I Was Refering to the 201FS - Shimano Black Magnum - Fightin' Star from Andrew (203.109.252.13)  6/28/2001 8:47:00 PM
Hi, I was refering to the model 201FS. Or the 200FS (right hand) Its a Shimano Black Magnum - Fightin' Star. Does anyone know how much this was sold for? Thanks.

Bass Pro Shop 1989: Bantam Super Speed master Bss2000 $78. Bantam speedmaster BSM 2200 $60. BSM2200W FS $68. Bantam Beastmaster (2 speed) BBMIII $90. BBM-V $100. I had several of these type reels (other than the 2 speed) and again because of the graphite frames they are not the caliber reel of the curado and calcutta's. At the time graphite was used alot because of weight reduction. However at the time they were fine reels but this was over 10 years ago. You mention the 201 which I believe was less expensive than the 2201. I believe the 2201 had more bearings.
