I posted about a GLX and had a few responses and something struck me. Are theese blanks that good and how much for a good 7 ft'er in a heavy action? I would be using it for 1/2 oz jigs and pitchin presentations only. And what are the weights of these rods since some have commented they are lighter and more sensitive than a GLX......Thanks again.

ht you can go to their website to get retail $$, they are not cheap from TNBill (66.147.9.241)  1/13/2003 11:56:00 AM
The site is www.shikariblanks.com. I do not think any of the sponsors carry them although both Brad and Rich use them a bunch!

shikari blanks for 10.00 from PinfishPoobah (24.136.185.64)  1/13/2003 2:57:00 PM
There's a guy on ebay that sells high modulus shikari blanks for around $10.00. I bought two last year and had a custom builder finish them the way I wanted them. They turned out to be an awesome pair if rods.Just go to ebay and type in a search for "shikari".

Just a comment about purchasing "Shikari" blanks on Ebay. I'm going to enclose the recent email I sent to Tom Kirkman following his article on counterfeit rod blanks. He asked if he could use it in the next RodMaker magazine and I said, "sure". Things are not always as they appear.

Hi Tom: I just wanted to let you know that the article on "counterfeit rod blanks" really hit home. I purchased 2 - 7' (actually 7'2" & 7'4"...raw blanks) graphite blanks off of eBay earlier this year. they were advertised as Shikari and no other information was available. I won the bid at around $40 for both rods, then paid $22 to have them shipped from a rod builder in Florida. My computer crashed about that time, so I ended up losing the guys name, from whom I purchased the blanks. He may have been misguided by the fella that sold them to him....I don't know. I hadn't used Shikari before, so didn't really know what to expect. These blanks were unsanded, though at the time, I didn't know that was what feeling the ridges down the rod meant. They had red tape tags on the butt section, used to hang the blank in a dryer, the best I could figure. I built the rods and fished them this summer. I liked the action, so thought I'd get a couple more. I searched the Shikari website and couldn't figure out what it could be. Brad Tharp didn't know and neither did Brian Kaupke when I called him. I sent one of my rods to Shikari for identification purposes a couple weeks ago. Brian informed me that, "I had been duped...". I really wasn't surprised. He had no idea of whose blank it was, but probably originated overseas, as it had not been sanded. He is going to match the rod action as best he can. I will then have a "real" Shikari rod to fish with. I'll continue to fish the bogus rod, but it is akin to the "red-headed step child" in my stable of GLoomis and St. Croix rods! lol. The main thing is that the rod is ok and it worked well for me this year, fishing in bass tournaments. Again, thanks for the timely article. I won't purchase from eBay again without the knowledge that I may not be getting what I'm paying for. Thanks for all the help. George J. Roth Weiser, ID. www.georgescustomrods.com

You don't get a quality Shikari blank for 10 dollars. Heck you can't even get a low end Shikari for that price. Beware of fakes. They are out there.

Brad Tharp is the owner of Everything Bass Inc. , and proud to be a sponsor of BFHP.
