SUBJECT: # 28554: Extreme combo or Shimano Bantam Curado at BPS?

Submitted by Matt (24.166.244.61) from OHIO on 3/8/03 7:33:00 PM

About to purchase my first baitcaster.Which would you recommend? Extreme combo $70.00 or Shimano Curado Bantam combo $140.00. Both have BPS Exteme rods. Why ??? Is a Curado and Curado Bantam the same thing? Purchasing tommorrow.

If you read the ad the extreme combo is not the extreme rod. You get the extreme rod with the Shimano Curado Combo. They are different quality combos. I'm having one of my friends who is starting baitcasting go with the Shimano Curado and Extreme Rod Combo. Go try both and compare.

I thank you for pointing that out. I read it again. Is it a good starter reel? I use Stradic /Extreme exclusively now. Love the Exteme rods. Curado /Curado Bantam the same thing?

Curado and Bantam Curado are the same thing. There are different versions of the curado(i.e. 100,200,superfree, different gear ratios etc.). I bought a curado with the lower quality rod several years ago.Great reel- adequate rod. Go with the curado/extreme combo.

If you don't need the extra line capacity of the 200 go with the 100/Extreme. You get the "Super Free" with the 100 and they feel great with the Extremes.

I would buy the Extreme combo for your first baitcaster. Use it, abuse it, and then sell to upgrade to the Curado. The BPS is actually smoother than the Curado. Press the thumb bar on each, and spin the spool- BPS wins every time. But the Curado is definately a total upgrade. I have 5 100's and 2 200's. Once you make the switch, you'll still use spinning gear, but will love baitcasting reels!

The extreme reel will perform just as good as the curado maybe even better...............for the time being anyways. I would refer to it as a 'throwaway reel' having mostly plastic inards and with the model being slightly changed and made by different companies every year parts parts/service is nonexistent(past the one year warranty). It will last a season or two but stuff will start to breakdown if you are an avid fishermen. The curado on the other hand is a tank and will last forever. I have had experiences with both. And as for the 100 it isn't part of the ad so I don't think they can be part of the combo.

I will tell you this: I'm going to BPS this week and getting the Curado combo. And like always - take all this with a grain of salt;)

Save yourself a lot of potential frustration and go with the Curado, a proven winner. Great caster for any level of experience. Why buy twice when you can make the right purchase initially and be happy from the start?
