SUBJECT: # 42257: Powell / Dobyns Crankbait rods

Submitted by djd (12.4.27.248) from MICHIGAN on 8/1/2007 7:19:00 AM

Anyone used the Powell or Dobyns crankbait rods? I have a Powell 706CB that I'm just starting to use a little. Just wondering what other Powell or Dobyns crankbait rods (especially the glass versions) are being used and for what baits.

Thanks

djd

I have been using both the 704CB and 705CB for topwaters. With that said I soon plan on using the 804CB and 805CB rods for anything with trebles from here on out as I prefer the length that they provide (personal thing). They aren't glass but act like it and I couldn't be more pleased with them.

djd, The Dobyns Glass rods will be ready in September. I plan on using the 705 for Blades and the 765 for cranks. You will find the glass rods to be a little more versatile in lure range as you can see by the lure rating specs.

Here are the specs for the 3 glass rods

705CB GLASS Full 7', 1pc, 10-25lb, 1/4-1oz, Med/Hvy Fast Action Crankbait, Jerkbait, Spinnerbait Casting Rod

    765CB GLASS Full 7'6", 1pc, 10-25lb, 1/4-1oz, Med/Hvy Mod/Fast Action Crankbait, Spinnerbait Casting Rod

    805CB GLASS Full 8', 1pc, 10-25lb, 1/4-1oz, Med/Hvy Mod/Fast Action Crankbait, Spinnerbait Casting Rod

The Dobyns 805 CB Rod (graphite) that I have is a great tool for the biggest crankbaits and the larger rattle baits (1 ounce +) and makes a phenomenal rod for big topwaters like the Super Spook.

The 804 will also handle these and seems to do a better job for me with the midsize cranks, mid size rattle baits and smaller topwaters and buzzbaits (the 733 is great for these as well). I cannot comment on the glass rods as i have yet to use one from Dobyns line.

I am sure Tacklewarehouse.com will be one of the firsts to have these rods when they become available.

    Mike
