When the water is in the low sixties the fish move upriver. Some run to the dam, some go to Old Whitney where they were planted and some never leave the other side of the lake. They usually hang upriver for a little while and then move down river and as the water warms, most larger fish go to the other side of the lake when surface temps exceed 75*. This year the water pretty much stayed 55* for a month and I think it affected the run a little. The photoperiod was right, but the water just wouldn't budge.

Try to practice some catch and release, not all catch and hot grease. :-)

Red over white, it sound like you have done this for a while. I am going Friday PM and Sunday I hope, which side should I try? I will be pulling bucktails and storm swim baits. Are the fish going to be shallow or deep? Thanks

You can e-mail me at t.henley@carolinacustomfinishing.com. I fished ski cove area from 5:15 til 7:30 PM with bucktails and storm swim baits, had 4 bumps and no catches.

I got some small one with crappie rigs, mostly roadrunner while trolling for crappies. The larger striper I been catching are on humps around 20 foot deep, also in more shallow water, closer to the banks. All the bigger fish I been catching are either hitting bucktail and umbrella rigs.

Last wed I seen some 12 # and a 17 # that came from behind the dam on a small run. Everyone was catching them on plug and live bait. some caugth their limit. Last Thruaday, was different, thy didn't run but them same bunch caugth some nice one trolling with planner boards down a little from the dam. Like, I said before, I been catching them on bucktail and umbrella rig. I don't waste my time with live bait, I not my thing. Try using a little white mixture will help, too. The striper are full of egg now, and are moving, try, fishing on some point going to dam and upriver.

Sorry, It be next week before I have time to go fishing. If you have a little time, try planer board about 10-15' deep. If you have any green with white on them it may be worth a try, too. (Don't forget the golf corse area)
