SUBJECT: # 10389: Note, on the GM's with Steering clunk noise/issue

Submitted by JJ from TEXAS on 6/22/04 11:10:00 AM

They have a redesinged part/replacement available now, installed at no cost...at least for my 03 Yukon.
.

Had the steering column work done at 25,000, it's back again (same noise) at 37,000....appointment with dealer next week.

replacing the free even though you are out of warranty? I have a '02 that does the same thing, and I just rolled 39k.

I assume because I had the work done prior to factory warranty expiring and now reoccuring, best to contact your dealer and confirm.. My dealer, Freeman GMC is doing it at no cost.

my dealer here in Buford Ga..says they've not Heard (like in Bill) of any replacement for this part, just the service bulletin for greasin' the shaft...I had it done around 20K and now it's rattlin' again severely at 49K..

I checked with my service manager for my 2003 Silverado and he said he hadn't heard of anything but the lube kit. When you get yours done next week, JJ, let us know what the part is and more info if you can, my warranty is about up. Thanks, Tom

  5. 6/25/04 10:03:00 AM Submitted by JJ from TEXAS says Rig is in the Shop this morning
I had asked the guy if they were gonna re-lube it or replace it, he stated that they would replace the sterring column. I asked him again if the would re-lube it, becuase a buddy of mine (Tuscon) had his done yesterday, and they only lubed his, again he said it would be a replacement. .

Should have it back this evening, I'll post the outcome.

Here is a great chevy forum http://mct.truckmoxie.com/

I had my 03' Silverado done at 13k the new TSB is to replace te yoke, and re-lube. I would print out the TSB on this issue and take it to the dealership and make sure they follow the new procedure. I hope mine stays this way, I have to do my wifes cavalier this weekend with the grease same problem.

I will post if anything changes!
