SUBJECT: # 13430: A60 Actuator wont slide out

Submitted by dre1965 (74.240.199.244) from TENNESSEE on 1/31/2010 11:12:00 AM

Well thought I would take apart my actuator this morning (see previous post) Took the retaing rings off of the pins on one side and the pins wont budge, I even beat on them with a hammer...nothing. On the UFP website it says to pull on the brakeaway cable but mine broke off last year due to rust. Any ideas on how I can remove the actuator?

Unless someone has alittle trick, the only thing I know is spray something like PB penetrating catalyst on the pins. Spray each end of the pins and top of the actuator by the pins.Leave it set for awhile and then tap the end of the pins. If nothing moves spray it agian. In the future tap your pins back and forth every once in awhile. Not a bad idea to lube them every so often. I've been there myself and know just how your feeling! GOOD LUCK!!

Use another pin or piece of steel that you can keep it flat against the pin and hit it not the ones in the trailer. If they mushroom you could have a problem getting them out. There are rollers inside the tongue that rusted and keeping the pins from coming out. Sometimes you can just move them back and forth alittle. Just keep spray the pins each time.

Like to thank you guys for the advice with my actuator. Ended replacing it with a new one, my old one was just to trashed. Thanks again

Was just wondering how you turned out. Just oil your pins every once in awhile and bleed the brakes to keep clean fluid. One thing about it you now have the feeling that you know how to fix it now. GREAT FISHING RonU
