SUBJECT: # 13439: LED Trailer lights

Submitted by stp357 from GEORGIA on 3/16/2010 12:27:00 AM

I just installed LED reverse lights on my trailer and I am not impressed with the output of these things. Although I only tested them in my garage, it appears they will be next to useless on a dark ramp before sun up. Any body else have them installed? Are they worth the money in regards to functionality?

Just because it's LED doesn't mean it's good. A good LED light is expensive, a less expensive LED light will put out less light. What was the lumen rating of the light you bought?

They were purchased in a trailer hitch shop. They came in a plastic baggy, no packaging whatsoever, should have been a major hint as to the quality. They're going back, in the same baggy.

I put LED light on my Ranger trailer and my jon boat trailer. They are both bright and have worked great. The ones I put on the jon boat trailer had a deffect and I called Peterson they told me to take them back for a refund. The store pulled them off the self and Peterson sent me a set for nothing. Now thats what you call customer service! Got mine at Farm & Fleet store, but almost any store sells the Peterson brand. Good Luck RonU

tow my aluminum boat long distances and am always having trailer light issues...probaly from vibration on these lightweight trailers..don't even think about using the Wal-mart submersible lights-bought some better ones from boat dealer and they have lasted a little longer but they still cause problems too....have thought about replacing with LED lights.....also will same trailer wiring work?

  5. 3/17/2010 6:56:00 PM Submitted by 5keepers #10346 from AL says I have
a trailer that I use to haul 4wheeler I use in hunting. This trailer gets very rough treatment over very bad roads. I put new lights on it every 2-4 years until I got a good set of LED. No more problems....bullet proof through first 5 years.

Same wiring. I put a set on my boat trailer about three years ago with no problems. Of course I only tow a couple of times a year and then only 2 miles total. LOL

They have been on the trailer for at least two years and on my Ranger trailer for about six years. My jon boat trailer does bounce around alot. I'm about due for new trailer tires on the jon boat, because of wear. No problems so far and just got back from a 375 mile trip.

    Before you junk em,,

I installed a set on mine and like you was not very impressed with the output,,,until I realized something,,, where the lights that bad,, or was I being blinded by the running lights on the trailer while looking in my mirrors to back up???? Yup I turned off the running lights and I could see clearly the back up lights,,, Try that before you junk em.
