SUBJECT: # 13569: Ranger Trailer Problem

Submitted by kborrell (216.170.75.166) from ALABAMA on 10/16/2011 5:23:00 PM

Beartrap They really couldn't or wouldn't tell me what caused the problem.I am thinking that the oil leaked out on the way to Guntersville which is 60 miles from my house and this cause the bearing, spindle and hub to get hot causing the wheel to lock up and almost fall off. With these cool hubs its not like grease as soon as that oil leaks out,the bearing will heat up and cause damage. The
Boat guy did tell me that the other wheel had a small leak
and they replaced the other wheel parts as well.Anyway
it is fixed for now fished Gville yesterday and had no problems. I want to trade for a skeeter or new phoenix I want to get away from the cool hub system.

Or, you could repack the COOL Hubs with grease. They wouldn't have the same through the spindle feature that the old Ranger grease hubs had, but they should work just fine. The spare hub mounted under my spare tire is full of grease, not oil.

got a buddy who was on his way Saturday morning to fish that big bass tourny up there and burned a bearing up on his Ranger trailer....fortunately he's got a tandem trailer and was able take wheel off and get back and forth on three wheels.... he fishes a lot plus we've towed his boat to falcon and back last couple years with no problems... maybe heat sensors for bearings would be a good idea for boat trailers.....I'll pose that question on boats and motors page...maybe basscat boats can give us some answers...
