Jap haters..no need to bother reading this!

That was a very interesting article.

  2. 5/6/2008 7:54:00 PM Submitted by JohnM from TN says You know I had to read it LOL
Great article, actually from what I understand at one time Toyoda came over and bought up every copy he could of Henry Fords book Today and Tommorow to take back for his managers to read.

  3. 5/6/2008 10:40:00 PM Submitted by Cougarcat from AL says Interesting
I think it should be a five year old article. Recently Toyota quality has been slipping as the company got bigger and I don't think they are higher quality now than the other large car companies. They are still perceived to be higher quality.

Personally their cars and trucks have always been quite boring and if I bought one I'd probably fall asleep while driving their just average cars. But look! the Toyota four banger will last a long time. So what. They are overpriced and of no better quality than other vehicles.

They also build a 3/4 ton pickup market it as a 1/2 ton and say we can haul 3/4 ton with our half ton and you can pay more for it. It has 4.10 gears and they say it pulls well. Well how about that it should. Toyota doesn't have more to offer but they do build decent boring cars but are no longer better than the other major brands.

  4. 5/6/2008 11:03:00 PM Submitted by Steve P #13351 from FL says Cougarcat, on what do you base your opinion?
Please explain how YOU came to the conclusion that Toyota is NOT better quality than the Big Three? If you say you READ it, I'm going to puke all over my keyboard!!LOL

I've been reading the Toyota quality debate for the past several years, but I just don't see it in the field (real world).

Steve P......a staunch believer in "buy American" (Toyota)

  5. 5/6/2008 11:18:00 PM Submitted by Cougarcat from AL says Opinions
are like a--holes everyone... Mine is based on the sludge filling transmissions, recalls and slipping of quality shown by the J P Powers and other things I've read or noted.

The pickup being overdone is from Toyota's own adds and the gearing is what I've read basically here. They only offer 4.10 gears and I bet it pulls as well as my Avalanche with 4.10 gears. Mine with the 5.3 has 104,000 miles from 2002. I changed the plugs the first time two months ago. Note: I didn't say they were worse just not better. I'll definitely stick by boring. Can you say Supra?

  6. 5/6/2008 11:42:00 PM Submitted by Steve P #13351 from FL says Mkay!!
You go by what you have READ, and I'll go by what I see in the real world.

    CASE CLOSED

  7. 5/7/2008 12:20:00 AM Submitted by Cougarcat from AL says Real World
The real world tells me the same thing.

  9. 5/7/2008 11:41:00 AM Submitted by Toonafish from GA says Nope...just sharing a little info Mike !
My Tundra is 2 1/2 years old now. Believe me, if I didn't love it, I would have traded long ago.

This is an open forum and you're welcome to post any links or information proving that the build quality and processes that GM and Ford use, are superior to Toyota's. Go for it... I'll pack a lunch!

  10. 5/7/2008 8:15:00 PM Submitted by cajunbearbass #10997 from KY says straight up fact
most all vehichles except maybe for kia are about the same quality. strongpoints on one brand are a weakness on others and vica versa.got a brother who was a toyota lover because of a van he owned and bought a lexus and it nickel and dimed him to death .he bought a ford this time. i hear all the time how toyota resale value is so great.that 2-4 thousand you pay over comparable other brands is the reason. just like harley davidson. you pay 4k more so when you sell you get 4 k more.so what have you gained .they say toyo holds its book value better than others.my silverado only dropped a few hundred dollars this year. one final thing that strikes me as funny . about all the older toyo's you see now are rusty.plain ol rust bucket's like chevy use to be . seems odd for vehichle's that are supposed to be so well made.i hope this is all in fun because if someone really believes that toyo is that superior then they have a severe case of the idiot syndrome.

  11. 5/7/2008 11:11:00 PM Submitted by Steve P #13351 from FL says Cajunbear....
Actually sir, the KIA brand is proving to be a very reliable line of vehicles. I have many, many customers who report excellent reliabilty from their Kias. They don't seem to break.

I don't like the fact that GM and Ford are inferior to the Metrics either. I honestly wish it was the other way around, but sadly, it just isn't.

Steve P......cause heeeere innnn theeee reeeeal worldddddd

    :-)

  12. 5/8/2008 7:22:00 AM Submitted by Toonafish from GA says My daughter's 2004 Kia Optima....
has over 60k on it and the only thing I've replaced is a marker light and a headlight and tires. She drives the chit out of that thing going to college (off campus) full time and working full time.

I love all the first hand experience shared on this site...LMAO

  13. 5/8/2008 1:23:00 PM Submitted by MikeF from FL says honestly
I don't have any problems with Toyota and if that truck had a diesel I would consider one. I don't think there's enough difference in quality and options to justify the difference in cost, but other people do.

I think the only reason they market it as a 1/2 ton is because everyone else's 3/4 ton trucks come with a diesel and a heavy-duty transmission. If I'm buying a truck to tow anything substantial it will have a diesel and a serious transmission. And I don't think the Tundra has either.

  14. 5/8/2008 8:57:00 PM Submitted by cajunbearbass #10997 from KY says metrics
you know steve i dont have any problems with metrics.i own a yamaha roadliner S edition and i dont think there is a cruiser built any better. the 2 american brands included .but i do believe that toyo's are overated according to some. the best metric car or truck on the road is made by honda and without doubt they are superior vehichle's.the only problem is they cost too much and the ridgeline is a cheap looking copy of the escalade .

so here in in my world i use common sense instead of watching to many ad's on tv.

  15. 5/9/2008 10:10:00 AM Submitted by Boomer #10235 from NC says Cajunbear-Common Sense?
Common sense would lead you to the realization that the big 3 are in serious trouble and have been for some time. The detroit boys are hurting bad, and they have proved that by now using cheaper and poor quality materials in all the new vehicles they produce and have been producing since the late 90's. What made them do this you ask? Giving in to the unions and paying crazy pensions and wages to workers in the efforts to avoid a strike that would put them out of production. Don't get me wrong, I beleive a man should be paid, and paid well for a job well done, but some of the pay scales for this line of work mirrors a doctor or a lawyer! Basic economics dictates that if your fixed cost (labor and material) increases and your margin lowers becasue your product isn't valued by your customers, and you can't do anything with the labor cost, guess where you cut your cost? You got it materials! As long as were talking common sense, share holders actions are a solid sign of your publicly traded company. Compare the stock prices and trends of the big 3 for the last 10 years, and I think it will be fairly easy to use common sense to see the trends. Then do the same with Toyota. I am not trying to bash any company here, and yes I have owned all brands, and currnetly ride in a Tundra because I got feed up with taking my old truck to the dealersbhip constnatly for repairs. It was less than 3 years old, and had less than 60k miles. I know all about the lemon line, about how I must have gotten a bad one, etc. But common sense prevailed and I got a new one. The absolute worst mistake Chevy ever made was getting rid of the bullet proof and proven 5.7, and started using the 5.3 Vortech POS in the late 90's.

  16. 5/9/2008 10:59:00 PM Submitted by cajunbearbass #10997 from KY says boomer
they are all out to make profits .i agree about the OVERPAID workers but dont forget the good ol american company way . stick all the profit in your pocket .i think these companies have a way of hiding profit for there own end game.as far as the 5.3 i think except for the cold knock start it would be impossible to find a more fuel efficient v8 with the power it has. pulls my 21.6 boat without a grunt.20 mpg highway empty .i will agree on one point though, toyota is ran better and by smarter people but people just the same who like money.all cars nowadays have parts from all over the world .as a ol boy i use to work with would say ,it's all about the benjamins.and the worst mistake chevy ever made is the newest body style . damn shame

  17. 5/12/2008 9:48:00 AM Submitted by BASSMAN IA. from IA says first hand ------------------------
Anyone read what Busch said about his Toyota this last week end? Now don't back pedal on me------------ it says Toyota on the outside of the car.

I just love it when a driver hangs it right in his sponsors arse.

  18. 5/13/2008 5:27:00 PM Submitted by Crowbar from TX says I wonder
how come FORD in their new Fusion commercial on TV is claiming that their vehicle is now comparable in quality to Toyota? Couldn't believe it when I first saw it so I rewound it, played it again and sure enough I wasn't hearing things. FORD bragging up their quality as now being equivalent to Toyota's. Go figure. Ifthat ain't straight from the horse's mouth, I don't know what is!

    Cbar

  19. 5/13/2008 7:44:00 PM Submitted by JohnM from TN says I wonder why
I about DIED when I heard that commercial Crowbar. I understand the logic behind the marketing, BUT why the he11 was the quality not the same in the first place. It's no secrete Yoter is having growing pains, so I guess Ford is admitting Toyota has slipped back to their level?

  20. 5/13/2008 8:21:00 PM Submitted by cajunbearbass #10997 from KY says i believe they
have dealings that we dont know a thing about.we are just pawns in the big chess game . and yes i do believe in conspiracy.

  21. 5/14/2008 8:07:00 AM Submitted by MikeF from FL says makes you wonder
I wonder how long the guy at Ford that signed off on that commercial will have a job. I would imagine that someone on a corporate level is having to answer to the Board about that one.

  22. 5/14/2008 9:29:00 PM Submitted by Toonafish from GA says Ford commercial...
that Ford commercial ranks right up there with the Howie Long/ Chevy commercial that states the "projected re-sale" value of the Chevy is better than the Toyota.

All commercials (including Toyota's) must be produced by some kids just out of college !

  23. 5/16/2008 7:03:00 PM Submitted by noah steere #13491 from NC says Hahaha...
While I own a Toyota Tundra and believe their commercials are a bit hyped, that Ford commercial really hit the spot. So after how many years, NOW Ford decides to build a vehicle as good a their competitor.......... CLASSIC!!!! I will say I have not had 1 problem with this truck (tundra). I (we) also have a Chevy Tahoe 07 model year. Let me tell you this vehicle has given us nothing but problems. Just left the shop yesterday AGAIN. It will be my last "American" vehicle I ever purchase. My last Tahoe before I left chevy for a few years was a lemon and I won the case against chevy, but like everything the lemon law protects corporate america and screws the consumer. We traded in a ford Explorer for the Tahoe last year. That vehicle went through 2 transmissions and a bunch of other problems in the year+ we owned it. I also had an 05 Ford Expedition That I couldn't wait to get rid of. Biggest pile of doo-doo I ever owned. I have owned 2 F350's and 1 F250 in the past 4 years and never had one problem with them though. Diesel is to high and that is why I am now driving a Tundra. The Tahoe will more than likely be traded in for a Toyota Seqouia soon. Maybe The Japanese will produce a quality Bass boat and force some of these American bass boat companys to step up their game as well. We can only hope!!!

  24. 5/28/2008 1:26:00 PM Submitted by Jackson #11818 from NM says Lots of funnies...
I spent some time that I'll never get back reading this. I have 3 Fords... well... 2 and a loaner. 2- F-150s and an Expedition. The loaner is my company truck, 02 F-150 4X4. It just turned over 199,000 miles, and gets driven in 4wd a lot because of the places I have to go. Other than brakes, belts, plugs, and tires, it hasn't had a wrench turned on it. Expedition is the same, except a year older and has 117,000 miles... tires, brakes, belts, and plugs. My personal truck is an 03 F-150 with 97,000 miles... same story. Real world experience. I have owned 1 Toyota. The drivetrain outlasted the body and interior. I sold it with 140,000 miles. My LAST 2 GM products were real POS vehicles and so I won't be burned there again. I don't particularly love Fords. I like the new Tundra, but I won't buy one as long as the Fords are performing as well as these 3 have. I don't worry too much about resale, because I use them up.

    Just my take on it...
